Aldi 12v solar ‘trickle charger’

Postby HW182 » 06 Jul 2018, 17:48

Afternoon all, just picked up a 12v solar trickle charger from Aldi - https://www.aldi.co.uk/p/070667036486600?gclid=Cj0KCQjwpvzZBRCbARIsACe8vyLcB5_Av2_rJsjXmT_ia1zjT_GvOBKZNxqtt4s_j5jMKtw7Z0EYdMIaAhDqEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CNPlruqAi9wCFYGeGwodke8OcQ#product-reviews

Has anyone used one? First impressions seem good - got it hooked to the leisure battery.

As my van doesn’t have a split charge relay I’m hoping it’s a quick and easy method to keep the battery topped up.

At £15 it seems cheap enough to leave for a sunny day!

The recommendation is for 80 - 100w of solar panel. That offering may charge your phone!

I've had a couple of these type of solar panels for about 8 years.

Fine for maintaining a charge, or even putting a small charge in a good battery which has gone fairly flat..... if you can leave it for over 12 hours. It was enough to start a car

At 2.4 watts it's useless.
Ok for a garden fairy light.
In the winter with cloud cover and short days you need a minimum of 80watts
