I'm back (with a new van)

Postby T25Convert » 03 Jul 2018, 18:48

Just popped out for two years whilst I had an ill advised liaison with a bay window.

After freezing bits off in winter, and crawling round all summer in fear of overheating, plus a string of breakdowns it was sold and a proper van purchased again.

Now have 3 kids and a massively tent, so was looking for a caravelle, found a good example with rusty steps, but no seam rot (and original paint, so it's not hiding). Deal was done and I now have an 8 seater 'coach' edition which is excellent.

Some minor niggles, but generally in good nick.

Done over 300 miles in it in two weeks of ownership, and loving it.....

Welcome back. :ok

It was your rebuild thread that inspired me and others to have a go at full rebuilds.

Looks like you've taken it a step further though!

I built a Aircooled engine shortly after, they are almost identical, bar all the fiddling about with gudgeon clips through tiny holes in the jacket. Much easier.

The new van engine has new heads and seals and runs well, but at 140k miles I suspect a bottom end will be needed sometime soon, so I'm sure I'll be going back in again!
