Death is never easy to deal with but worse when it's so early.
Good luck Iain, I hope you reach your target as well as completing the walk.

Thanks!
I am still recovering from Saturday's 48k, still a bit tight/sore in the lower legs but generally ok.
I will definitely be taking advantage of any sports massage available on the day!

I have a regular route which I have gradually extended, running roughly north/south: from the north side of Woking, across Horsell and Chobham Commons, under the M3, across more commonland to Sunningdale, over the A30, past Coworth Park (& polo fields) to Virginia Water/Windsor Great Park. A slightly winding route though several of the gardens and then into the deer park at the Royal Lodge. The final extension of the route was the Long Walk to the castle.

Note to self: do calf stretches every day on stairs (both straight and bent knee) to prevent extensor tendon pain.
30 seconds each, 3 reps each (6 in total)

The long forecast for the Sussex coast is looking somewhat challenging for Saturday. I really dont want to trudge in waterproofs...

Have done 60km of the south’s Downs way on a bike - it’s tough going. And you’ll be going into the wind I guess. Good luck, lovely place, there’s an old Churchill tank you can go see towards the end if you want to take your mind off things, would involve an extra hill though!

I did 40km on foot from Lewes to Beachy Head last year in the mid-June heatwave.
I dont mind it being warm or even hot but humidity makes it worse, of course.
I know that I can do 48km in 9h 30 in 30C + at a comfortable & sustainable pace, so my personal target of finishing inside 24hrs looks possible.

I am so glad that is over. I have never experienced so much protracted physical suffering.

So, how to improve on 25 hrs 21 mins?ImageImageImage
