Westfalia trailer on ebay

Postby Born Too Late » 31 Dec 2017, 16:12

There's a nice little Westy trailer on e bay at the mo:

Not mine or anyone I know's, just a heads up in case anyone's looking. I'd probably be buying it myself if I hadn't got (a not-so-nice) one earlier this year

Are these worth the premium (in terms of build quality - having a 'name' on it I value at £0.00) over the newer but cheaper metal alternatives, eg https://trailers.co.uk/Product/0000002749/ERDE_122

But there are loads of cheaper camper-vans out there than our VW's that would do exactly the same job... are you sure brands mean nothing to you? I can see why someone would want a trailer to match their van even at a premium price, especially when it would retain more of its value when it was time to sell it on.

I was looking for ages at 2nd hand trailer prices for ages before I bought one, the trailer tax is probably worse than the VW "scene tax"! The Westy on ebay one has a hard top which would be another £300 new for the similar sized Erde 122 and roof bars which are about £130.00 new from Erde. So you'd have to compare it to over £800.00 for an equivilent new one.

For any used Erde/Daxare/Maypole trailer that size you'd be looking at about the same price, I got my used Erde 122 for £260 with no hardtop which was about the cheapest I could find in good nick at the time.

It might not be worth it as such but it's what people are willing to pay unfortunately :(
