Back to using the T25 as a daily

Postby campervanster » 12 Dec 2017, 09:48

Took the plunge and sold my daily car last night (Mini Cooper S), so I'm back to using the van as a daily driver! I walk to work though so it's not like it will be a commuter and will still only really be weekend use. So it's just me and the van - it's quite a good feeling. Since having the Mini, I haven't been driving the van as much as I'd like. Who else is with me?

Back to using the T25 as a daily

Probably August next year I’ll be back to vans only. I do 160 miles a week in commuter traffic though so it’s not relaxing as such. Best to keep mechanical things moving though. Jet wash the salt off in the winter, mind.

I used mine as a daily for a couple of years until the engine conked out. I got the Mini as a little run around in the meantime - it wasn't a 'proper' Mini though sadly but it was quite fun to drive. It was a 2004 1.6. I'd love to get a proper one, one day though.

That's the thing, I'd go for weeks without using the van at all and it just seems pointless to have it sitting there doing nothing. I'm happy to actually be using it now but yes, as you say, the salt needs to be kept off it ideally! I don't want my holes getting any bigger!

I'd be commuting for hours a day... but I have a Gipsy so it takes about 11.6 minutes to get to 60mph (downhill, obviously!) :rofl
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

My second vehicle is due for its MOT next month so I may have to rely on my camper if it fails. Camper is on classic insurance and I therefore need the other car to keep my no claims valid etc. Probably do it good to use it more this time of year though.

I have a 200 mile a week commute and I try to use my van at least once or twice a week for work and on occasions it has been used all week for the commuting. Haha seems to be a pattern here - I too have a 2010 Mini Cooper S which is my daily.

Some classis insurance isn't covered for commuting to work, best check with them, I had to pay extra for this so I can drive the van to work occasionally.

We're the same our van Is used for work and travels everyday we go to the jet wash and give her a clean every couple of weeks to wash the salt off it's good because you can tell of any impending mechanical problems sooner rather then later. If it's stored and you get it out for summer there's no telling what could have happens over that time at least we can keep on top o it this way

We can do commuting to work and it's only generally a 5% increase. I've got it on mine too as it's nice to be able to park the slab at work sometimes!

I need to wash the salt off mine too actually - it's something I haven't done for a while. Though, I think if I put it through a jet wash, most of the water would end up inside!
