Re: Intermitent powersource for coolbox
Our cooler box clicks in and out so it must have themal control already....as for powering a cooler box off a solar panel hmmmmm, it would need to be a big panel and permanently sunny. Cooler boxes start at 4 amp draw and go up to as much as 8...thats 50 to 100 watts at 12 volts....how big was that ...

Re: Please forgive this naive question
YES! The common setup is to install a second 'leisure battery' and wire it to the existing battery through a split charge relay. On camp only use power from the new leisure battery and because it is wired through a relay the main 'starter' battery will remain fully charged and untouched, ready for s...

Re: Electric Hookup - Amps questions
Small things like phone and games chargers take very little current and you could literally have lots of these without exceeding 10 amp draw. It's items like blow heaters, oil filled radiators, kettles and professional hair dryers that consume lots of power. As Kev says: watts divided by volts equal...

Re: Light balast resistors
Going back into the mists of time and I've been to bed since then lol, I seem to remember legislation regarding lighting that was very short lived (around for 1-2 years max) that required the use of these resistors. Vehicles that just happen to have been manufactured in this time frame have them but...

Re: Dalek caps and pressure release
OK Martin & Mike, I get that :) So a T25 operating in a very hot country and working hard can be expected to exceed the capacity of the cooling system (Rad & Fan) to keep the temperature at the optimum value, set by the manufacturer (by fitting a 80 something degree stat). I am SURE they kn...

Re: Hooking up during winter months
It's a little different if you're in the van, you can regularly check battery levels and top up with distilled water when necessary. However, the constant battery activity may shorten battery life long term. In this situation (permenantly hooked up) I would be tempted to look at fitting some sort of...

Re: valve shims for CS diesel?
Where are you mate....I've got the tools and shims if you are local. Are you sure the head gasket is fitted the correct way around? as I understand it can be fitted wrongly which blocks the oil feel to the head. Martin im sure i fitted it right, i fix motors for a living. i just didnt have time to ...

Re: advice
Sweetpea...you actually have two coolant bottles....the one you can see behind the number plate is just the expansion tank (overflow) and then the main 'pressurized ' tank (you will need to take your engine cover off to see this) on the left side on a petrol/watercooled engine. The latter needs to b...

Re: Dalek caps and pressure release
Whilst we are on the subject there is one thing that has puzzled me from way back, and that is, if as most vehicles do, an 88 degree C thermostat is fitted and assuming the rad and rad fan are working correctly, under what circumstances does the coolant in the system get to over that temperature ? ...

Re: How do you use your gas?
Looking at the list of contributors that have already commented I know most have had their fridges out at some point, maybe just to clean out dirt or maybe blowout the jet. Therefore I know all are aware of just how small the single jet of gas powering the fridge is. This isn't a domestic boiler or ...

Indeed..fuel leakoff pipes, as you say just cut new lengths and push them on.
Not as dangerous as you might think as diesel is pretty difficult to catch fire..not at all like petrol which under the same circumstances is lethal (very volatile)

Re: can parking at an angle affect oil dispstick reading?
The engine can quite safely be started with the level on minimum you really don't need to be worried as this is the minimum level the engine can be run safely.
Obviously top up just below max level.
