MV Build for spare engine

Well I have built a green 1.9 , a silver 1.9 , a blue 2.1 DJ so it was time for a Yellow 2.1 MV. I bought a 2.1 MV bottom end and then two AMC HEADS , Which I am building into a spare engine. I used some oild valves I had together with some new ones to rebuild the heads and have fitted new mains , b...

AMC Heads and Valves

I have just been stripping down a pair of Amc heads that I managed to get hold of for my MV build. There is very little pitting on the mating surfaces and no cracks between the valves which is great However The valves all have chewed up collett grooves some worse than others. To start with I thought...

Re: Ongoing problem with DVLA

I need to find a garage with a similar tea club!!! My MOT garage say they will happily vouch for engine number but won't for engine capacity as they can't tell!!!

Ongoing problem with DVLA

They will not register my new engine on my V5 without a receipt from the engine supplier or an insurance report or proof from the manufacturer. SPOT the Problem, home build engine 2.1 in a 1.9 case, so no receipt, no manufacturer and no insurance report was required. Even if I did approach a garage ...

Re: Steering wheels

I used some superglue in a hypodermic to stick the soft bit back onto the steel, just didn't like the feel of it all rotating!!!

Re: Cylinder jackets / wetbliners. How to reseat.

Very True the mating surfaces are critical but you can see quite well if you pull the liner out as far as poss without pulling the rings out. Any doubt then it's best to take them apart. The problem I have found is that the piston pins are often too tight due to having hammered against the clips dur...

Re: Cylinder jackets / wetbliners. How to reseat.

If you use a small hook such as a fishing hook attached to a drill bit you can hook the bottom seals off without taking the liners completely out, some people use a scalpel blade to cut them in the groove and then prise them out. The new seals will go over the outside of the liners and roll down and...

Re: WBX

I have fallen out with my oil breather and now have the breather inlet on the air pancake blocked off. My breather tower now feeds into a separator / collector can and vents to atmosphere. This has made it easier to control the Lpg mixture.

Re: 1.9 wbx rebuilt TWICE still a problem

The sealing faces where the bottom o rings mate need to be cleaned up nicely, the o rings must be placed in nicely cleaned up grooves and I usually use some silicon grease on the o rings. It is also vital that the top of the liners is clean and flat as with the surface of the head where the sealing ...

Use 68K resistor for your Blue LED(sounds alot) but results in just the correct brightness.

I am no cam expert but I would be suprised if there was enough metal in the right places to reprofile a DG to an MV?

Re: DJ to MV pistons

There is probably not alot in it unless you run the fuel injection. I went for DJ because I run on gas which is perfect for the high compression. It runs ok On petrol even timed at 8-10 degrees but I use the 98 ron petrol. I have run it on 95 and it didn't ping. My spare engine I am just building wi...

Re: Spur of the moment purchase

You are very right. It is usually a bit of a risk. The only negative can find is that one barrel has a slight bit of surface rust on the bore but I think it will be fine with a hone. The barrels are more or less unworn also. Really happy :D
