Re: 1.9 DG exhaust options
Its the later type and to be honest the complete exhaust is in a shocking condition with all the mounts rusted through, holes in the front piping and completely shot silencer. Current problem is with the exhaust studs into the head. Only two of 8 came out. I could tell by looking at some of them tha...

Re: 1.9 DG exhaust options
Thanks - lots of good info. Will go for the vwspeedshop option if they can answer a couple of questions tomorrow.
1) Is there a performance change
2) how robust is an exhaust system that is basically hanging off the head studs

1.9 DG exhaust options
Exhaust failed MoT on 4 counts 1) Major leak of gasses 2) Not adequately supported 3) Noise in excess of that emitted by a similar vehicle with standard silencer in average condition. 4) Unable to test emissions Its fairly clear that existing exhaust is junk so looking at options from various suppli...

Re: Skoda Octiva ASV engine
Thanks for the info. I have got a Renualt UN1 gearbox that also needs an adaptor plate to fit the VW bell housing. However, another way to go may be to use the Renault clutch and bellhousing and have an adaptor plate made up to the ASV engine. If I use the cluth from a Renault 21 turbo or Alpine tur...

Skoda Octiva ASV engine
Hi, I am looking at engine upgrades for my T25. My brother has a 2000 Skoda Octiva with a 1.9TDI 110bhp engine. Looking up the VIN number I think its an ASV engine. I think this is a later TDI and I will have to fabricate engine mounts if I use it. Can anyone confirm that this is the case?
Thanks

Also check the throttle cable is not sticking. You can easily check this by disconnecting it temporarily to see idle speed changes. I had this problem and a new cable sorted it.

Re: 1.9 DG Pierburg 2E carb is this normal???????????
OK, I have moved forwarded but still not solved the flatspot.. I replaced the vacuum advance without removing the dizzy with much cursing after working upside-down trying to get it connected for 15mins. Replacement unit came from TT automotive in Loughborough and cost 30 Quid which is good bit cheap...

Re: 1.9 DG Pierburg 2E carb is this normal???????????
OK, disconnected vacuum hose from distributor and plugged open end of hose. Went for a drive and flat spot / lack of power exactly same. Tried sucking on vacuum advance on distributor and could easily suck air through with little / no resistance. This makes me think vacuum advance has had its day? L...

Re: 1.9 DG Pierburg 2E carb is this normal???????????
Many thanks guys for the advice. It has helped by understand a logical approach to this. 1) Check mechanical and vacuum advance working OK 2) Check / replace fuel filter (needs doing anyway so why not) 3) Check for manifold / vacuum hose leaks 4) Check accelerator pump on carb 5) Buy and fit carb re...

1.9 DG Pierburg 2E carb is this normal???????????
Have tried searching forums for advice but can't seem to find anything, maybe because this is normal for these vans. When accelerating hard there seems to be a flat spot mid range followed by a sudden burst of power (if there is such a thing with these engines!). Not consistent but noticable when en...

Temp gauge issues
As I now have another years MoT on my van (miracles do happen) I thought I would fix a few other issues that have been bugging me for a while. One of these is the temp gauge has never worked. After reading other posts I was expecting to see 100 Ohm resistance across the sender terminals when the eng...

Rust on rear windows
 I think this is a common problem with any converted panel van when the cut edges are not treated properly. I reckon I can cut this out and weld in a repair section but has anyone attempted this before? Thanks in advance for any tips [img:640:427]http://soldridge.dyndns.org/Assets/nice!.jpg[/...

bodged by previous owner
OK, the 10mm hole is probably a unique modification to my van. The previous owner had ingeniously? fitted a tyre valve to the expansion tank to relieve pressure build up because of a leaking head gasket. Rather inconvenient having to open the engine cover after each run but effective non the less! T...

Top tank
Thanks for clarifying the terminology. The problem I have is that the top tank (pressurised with the blue top) has a 10mm hole in it so it can't overflow / suck back from/to the overflow tank. I don't understand why the hole is there. My only explanation is that it is a relif valve that has blown ou...

Main expansion tank
The main expansion tank keeps overflowing onto the exhaust and on investigation there is a 10mm hole in the top of it. This means the main expansion tank is not pressurised so water is not transferred to the top up tank when hot but overflows instead. I don't know what the hole is for as all pipes a...
