If that is the problem what will happen if the top end is not attended to straight away??
Have noticed that real bad fumes come out of breather pipe when filter housing is removed with engine ticking over!!

Black gunk on carbs and manifolds
There is an oily gunk working its way down the outside from the top of the carbs and getting baked on to the manifolds. Is it possible that oil is getting through the air filter housing via the engine breather pipe??

Hi, a useful thing to carry round with you, when camping in particular, is another VW jack to help get things levelled up just right (and a couple of small bits of plywood to put under them)

Cheers Ivor and Beaker, yeh its the isu I`m pretty sure its busted!! Is there no way that they can be checked with a meter???
