Re: Water jacket seal.

Well, and I wouldn't normally recommend something like this, but Holts radweld stopped my leak. Obviously the right course is to sort the leak but if its coming out in the Spring, I'd go for it. At the moment you'll probably find it only leaks as it cools down, not on the road so you could just top ...

Re: Window seals and trims

Talk to Chris. He does them all. Best quality too: http://www.volkswagenemporium.co.uk/shop/products.php?cat=11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - not sure if he has the side ones. You'll need to ask him as he seems to be able to source seals no one else appears to stock. I h...

Also, providing the pivot points are in good fettle, its possible to flip them over too. ie a left one will fit right.

Re: Replacement rear trailing arm

Crunchy Nigel? Replaced one myself with a very good used one but new is the ideal. Ernie doing it? Good to hear you still love the old thing :D

Re: DG Distributor - non starter

When its tapped home, you usually need to rotate it very slightly to make sure dizzy base engages correctly in slot. Chances are it wasn't fully seated ;)

Agree. I recommend them too if you have stock rear lights. I've upgraded my brake lights so don't need one now.

Re: Speedo Bounce

I used to have to do it on bugs with CV grease rather than high-melting point as it seemed to work better. Consider how many friction points can develop along its length where its dry. Thats what causes the judder. Unfortunately with an older cable that has lacked lubricant for a long time, the oute...

Should be straight swap (all being well). Just never be persuaded by anyone that a 009 crappo distributor is suitable. :D

Re: total coolant loss engine damage ?

Had a boil-out myself 3-4 years ago. Runs fine albeit lumpy at idle, but the almost certain damage is to head seals. The rubber gets over-cooked. Mine tends to seep now as engine cools down but I keep everything topped up and it runs ok - until I do a conversion. In other words, you MAY get away wit...

Re: Van Heaters

Fitting a Propex yourself isn't too bad at all. The hardest part is cutting the two holes that vent to the outside. Plumbing the gas is fairly straightforward. B&Q even stock the copper pipe and they should have the olives, if not Toolstation inside Wickes does. Then check for leaks - soapy wate...

Re: Alternator output

Yep, voltage drop due to high resistance. Its quite possible that a connection that visually looks ok is so corroded (when you take it off) that its no longer passing sufficient current. A tell-tale sign would be heat at one point, so you could try running it for a while, switch off and follow the a...
