Re: Sticking throttle
Hi, Rather than take off the auto-choke (which would give you trouble cold starting) first have a fiddle with your fast idle screw. As Kev says, there are three steps to the fats idle to assist with cold starting. The fast idle screw allows you to fine tune how fast this is. The screw in question is...

Hi, Just to jump in here - pretty sure these are what you need (5mm LED with 'standard' legs). http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2047" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they are 39p, with £2.99 P&P to have them sent straight to your house. Don't buy the super bri...

Good luck with yours!!

Leaky Louvre....
Hi, Sure this must have been covered before, but can't find anything using the search..... Noticed the louvre windows leaking, making the floor nice and wet (I can almost hear the floor rusting beneath the carpet). A quick test with a watering can showed it to be coming in between the side of the gl...

Re: re wire?
Hi, With all these problmes it sounds more like an earth issue than anything else (as it is the only thing common to all parts that have stopped working). I'm not sure that its the same for the Aircooled (I'm sure someone will say if not!) but on the watercooled there is an earth crown on the left '...

Re: wiring to carb info please
Is it 'lumpy' all the time, or just until it warms up? There should be three wires off your carb (well, at least there is on my 1.9, but it does look reasonably 'home made in parts'!). One is the fuel cut off solenoid (you'll know if this isn't connected as your van won't run). The other two are hea...

Re: 1.9 Rough Idle and Misfire - A quick fix!!
It is, but you get 1.5m of the stuff, when you only want a little bit! I've got a fair bit left, so PM your address and I'll stick a length in the post to you.sjmtlewy wrote:Whats the diameter of the hose? Is the 10mm JK servo hose the right stuff?

Re: Dashboard Hardwire
Well done, from your posting, can we deduce the following: 1. You were too idle/tight to buy coloured cable. 2. You forgot to line up the l.e.d's and it was a sod to do after. 3. It didnt fit as you couldnt be arsed to check as you went along. 4. You wired the plug the wrong way as you didnt check ...

Re: 1.9 Rough Idle and Misfire - A quick fix!!
I've got the 'chilli-red' but its cheap and keeps sucking flat! Curses to Wickes and their cheap hose!
Got some proper reinfocred servor hose now though - the length I was sent is enormous, so if anyone wants a bit PM me and I'll pop it in the post!
Cheers,
Alex

Dashboard Hardwire
After months of having crazy gauges and flashing lights with a mind of their own, I finally cracked and had a go at hardwiring it. The basic procedure has already been posted http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=54514&p=7379709&hilit=hardwire#p7379709 but thought I'd add my th...

1.9 Rough Idle and Misfire - A quick fix!!
My 1.9 has suffered a persistent rough idle, a stutter on acceleration, and a persistent mis-fire for the last few months. After checking the usual suspects of fuel filters, plugs, leads rotor arm, dizzy cap etc. with no joy, I found that the servo hose, despite looking fine, had gone porous under t...

Re: temp light and gauge...
I've had a very similar problem. Before you go ripping out thermostats its worth just checking the multi-plug on the back of the dash is making good contact. I've found that I can make the gauge read wahtever I want depending how i hold the plug, ditto the light........

Re: engine still overheating
Hi, All my Aircooled knowledge is from beetles, so may be wrong! Is the van running too lean - this would give the fast idle speed. Could be as a result of airleaks at manifold(s) letting in air, due to the mainfolds not being tightened up (or reuse of old gaskets). Suffered from this in the past an...

High revs alternator light - 1.9 petrol
Hi, Got a bit of an alternatorlight issue that I'd welcome input on (and this time it doesn't seem to be related to the dreaded multi-plug on the back of the dash). When I rev the engine towards its upper limits, the alterantor light starts to flicker - the higher the revs, the more constant it beco...

Number 3 - Do you have an alarm? My '86 made a relay clicking noise whenever you moved in the cab area, turned out it was an an over enthusiastic alarm sensor.
