Re: 5 Speed box, 1st to 2nd issues
what exhaust is that ? I do have a super short tool that can be turned with a spanner and fits between small car exhaust and plug, needs about an inch total gap as that is the threaded length on the plug Very good question - it's stainless steel custom made by Pro-Speed in Cardiff. It's a great exh...

Re: 5 Speed box, 1st to 2nd issues
Thanks Aidan,
I'll take out 0.5L & see how it goes. Like you say - ideally I need to get the drain plug out to have a look at the magnet, but without remomoving the exhaust there's no way I can get to it.
- we'll see.

Re: 5 Speed box, 1st to 2nd issues
Thanks Aiden. If my box is filled to the point of overflowing at the fill plug, & given VW reduced the fill to 3L to reduce baulking, how much in your opinion do you think I could extract in order to 'possibly' improve the baulking issue?

Re: 5 Speed box, 1st to 2nd issues
Been reading one or two threads about quantity - some fill slightly below the line, others level. Is there a rule of thumb & does this affect baulking from 1st to 2nd?

Re: 5 Speed box, 1st to 2nd issues
What amount did you add? Difficult to say but 3.5 litres came out but as it was sucked out there's no way of knowing how much was left in. When filling I did what most do which was to fill until it overflowed & I guess just shy of 4 litres went in. I could drain 0.5 litre & add a tube of mo...

5 Speed box, 1st to 2nd issues
Thought I'd change the gear oil as it hadn't been done for about 20K & I was getting a slight crunch going from 1st to 2nd. I know this is an issue with these boxes so it didn't bother me that much, plus it only happened on the first couple of changes when cold & was generally ok after that....

Re: Gearbox oil suction gun
Thanks Tony Went for this in the end. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0914XYJX6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Ideally I'd like to get the plug out so I can check the magnet but I don't really have any issues so it should be fine. I do have the common fault on the 5 speeds...

Gearbox oil suction gun
Anyone used a suction gun/pump to remove gearbox oil. My drain plug is totally obstructed by my exhaust & it's impossible to get it out without dismantling the whole exhaust system.

Re: Backfires & stopped
Thanks everyone. Coil checked out fine. I eventually got it running & jiggled the wires from the distributor & it cut out. I have a broken wire somewhere in that loom. If I tie the loom up it's fine but when it sags down it cuts out. Will try & fix it tomorrow. All I need a day before m...

Backfires & stopped
Ok so 3 days before I’m supposed to go on holiday this happens. Lots of backfiring & spluttering then it stops. I wait a while & try it & it’s fine & runs perfectly. Then all of a sudden it stops. There’s juice getting to it & I currently can’t check if any sparks as I’m on my ow...

Re: TK103 central locking wiring.
Problem solved - I've pulled the wretched thing out. Had it wired properly but key fob didn't work. Waste of money.

TK103 central locking wiring.
Ok, so I lost my central locking key fob - well actually it's at the bottom of a lake in the south of France. Anyway, I've got a TK103 gps tracker fitted which is tied into the after-market central locking via relays to trigger the locks. The only way around being able to use the central locking aga...

Re: Black box wiring
And the rest! Those Wago connectors are handy. First time I've used them & after years of pratting around with fiddly terminal blocks & connectors these are a dream to use.
