Fitted gearbox now need gearbox reconditioning
Hi I've replaced my gearbox with a ALD unit secondhand from synchronuts near Glasgow, the gearbox works but the ALD is a very different beast to the 3H it replaced, the gear ratios on the RJES website are wrong https://rjes.com/html/gearbox_types.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);retur...

Re: Quick starter motor removal question
Thanks, hit it with a hammer, no movement, but a chisel did the job nicely of separating the metals apart and the starter motor was easily removed.
steady as she goes.

Quick starter motor removal question
Hi all I'm removing my starter motor to get the gear box changed, its a 1.9 diesel AAZ and a 5 speed 3h box, I've undone the two bolts holding on the starter, moved the clutch slave a little out of the way, but the starter motor wont budge, not an inch, is it stuck on with gunk, I don't know. Before...

Re: Change bell housing and input shaft from petrol to diesel
Thanks for the advice, spring clip pliers I've got, but they're old and bent, do they work with the VW spring clip with rectagonal slots? or do you need a specific type? I see the main shaft is bentleys p35.65, looks simple enough, we shall see, can't find the bell housing removal instructions, but ...

Change bell housing and input shaft from petrol to diesel
I've looked on the wiki, I can't find it, hopefully some one can point me in the right direction. How easy is it to change the bell housing and input shaft from a petrol gearbox to a diesel and visa versa. My gearbox is jumping from 5th, I can't find a diesel gearbox but there is a petrol one on eBa...

Re: POPPING OUT OF 5TH GEAR UNDER LOAD
Thanks to Aiden, seems sound advice, I've checked those things and the fact that I can put it in 5th, the gears all good and solid until I put just a certain amount of torque through it and it jumps out suggests its glory days are behind it. It makes no noise, works fine still and I'll continue driv...

Re: aaz knacked, refurb aaz or 1y/aef? costs benefits?
Thanks colin, you've lead me to the answers I was looking for, its not such a simple replacement aaz to 1y/aef as I was hoping for, since I'm paying a mechanic to do this rather than having the courage or time to do it myself reducing the number of differences between engine types will reduce the co...

aaz knacked, refurb aaz or 1y/aef? costs benefits?
Hi some you may have seen my previous thread. Basically the motor oil ran dry, yes I'm an idiot and have cursed myself plent for this stupidity, please don't make me feel worse, in my defense the lack of an oil warning light and a questonable dip stick lead me to think oil was fine, I had checked it...

Re: Newbie, 1.9aaz loud knocking, smoke coming out of oil
No oil pressure warning buzzer, and now I notice no warning light either. Doesn't come on when turn ingnition on so thats what cost me the engine. The garage say it knackered, by sounds of they're right. So I'm in the business of a new engine, Mrhutch has very kindly suggested a 1.9 na 1y/aef lump w...

Newbie, 1.9aaz loud knocking, smoke coming out of oil
It was late at night, the boy coming back from band practise A loud knocking, sounded like a rattle at first but got louder, then too loud to ignore, about 2 miles down the road after initial sounds. Sounded like the apocalyse when I got out of car, lifted engine cover to find smoke coming out of th...

It seems there is no consistency to the needle position. My Fan has never kicked in as far as I can tell, maybe I should investigate!

temp gauge poll
this might have been done before but I can't find it so................. How hot does your temp gauge go and how much does it move, this is to gauge what mine should be doing and avoid another knackered head Mine runs on the red light to about a needle widths beyond the light, some times a little mo...

Re: New JX Head = Warmer Temperature??
Mine did this to a lesser extent when I had my head replaced, mine runs up to just past the red light, some times when going up hill even higher, I thought about replacing the thermostat with one that opens to 80 C just to be one the safe side. If anyone has further light and knowledge on why our JX...
