Re: Knocking sound

Until recently I had the same symptoms when pulling onto my drive.
In my case it turned out to be the upper wishbone bushes.

Crankcase Sealant

Hi Guys
What sealer should I be using when I put my crankcase back toghether.
The gasket set comes with Reinzosil (silicon Based Sealant) but I dont think thats any good for the crankcase.

Thanks

Re: Camshaft advice

Just to update:- Got a reply from VW Heritage they say there genuine camshafts are +/- 0 on the gear. However they're offering a camshaft for a 1.9 DG that’s -3. It is a special order so will take 3-4 weeks, not a problem to me the engine has been on my bench for 12 months now. (as the wife likes to...

Re: Camshaft advice

Thanks for the replies, thought the thrust bearing was shot because of the colour & its quite rough to the touch bit like wet and dry paper. The cam from VWheritage is more than I would like to pay but I can’t put it back together with the old one. Is this cam any good, I know I’ll have to chang...

Re: DG 1.9 End Float

Thanks itchyfeet, as I thought. It’s a late DG with 2 oil switches although my van only uses the one between the pushrod tubes.
Thanks for the link to your post great work. Put the flywheel back on to see if I could tell how much float there is, and its enough to be visible.
Dial gauge on order.

DG 1.9 End Float

I have a DG 1.9 engine, it’s a Vege recon unit. It’s never let me down but has always been very tapy and performance wasn’t great. I’ve started to strip it down and one of the 1st things I noticed on removal of the flywheel there is no crankshaft end float shims. So my question is what effect would ...

Re: Early 1.9 to 2.1 conversion - stop me if I'm being stupid!

Had to laugh when I read this post as I had the same idea, and have even been looking at the same engine on Ebay. Anyway funds have dried up for now so its not going to happen. Without any history of the engine I would strip it completely and check the bottom end as well. How would it feel to recond...

Re: better braking wanted

I would also sugest you check the brake servo and vacume hoses for leaks.
Although that may also give other symptoms with engine idleing
Mine is able to stop very well when needed.
