As Hutch says the van really needs to be level when doing an oil change. If i was you for peace of mind I would get it level and remove the drain bung, if you have overfilled it the oil will drain out. if you remove the drain plug all the oil will drain out Rob :lol: a bit overfull will do no harm,...

no you need to split the box so it needs a full strip down and rebuild also sounds like it needs a Mainshaft bearing retaining plate installed which I can do :wink: send me an email or pm me and can discuss further if you want Paul

As Aidan has stated the ideal would be a 5 speed with a 4,14 Crown and pinion SA oiling plates to protect it and 4th and 5th gears, a HD 4/5th slider and mainshaft bearing retainer for increased longevity I would also a Dual MAss Flywheel to further protect the gearbox from those nasty TDI torque wa...

spacer is meant to be 23,mm thick as stated in the bentley procedure is loosen middle clamp make sure gear lever is in neutral and cup/ slector lever at box end is verttical place 23mm spacer on left (if looking from the front ) of the tab double check everything is in neutral position tighten clamp...
