Re: Oil light flashing

Mine does this on a long run at idle but as soon as you touch the throttle it stops. Previous owner replaced oil pressure switch, which supposedly cured it but still happens. Oil level etc all fine.

Idle and running woes / Cornwall mechanic recommendations

Hello, can anybody recommend a good, honest, not overpriced and knowledgeable vw mechanic in Cornwall... Preferably West Cornwall please. I have changed the air filter, going to do the fuel filter as well... But the van is being a pain. Sometimes will start, no probs, idle well, sound well but as so...

Re: Clueless

Modified wiring is always a pain with fault finding. Glad you got it sorted. :idea Thank you for taking the time to help and advise. It is very much appreciated. As mentioned in the past, I am pretty useless with little to no experience but want to enjoy the van and am very willing to learn to keep...

Re: Clueless

Sorted... Sort of! Contacted bloke I bought it off. He said the horn and headlights run off an upgraded wiring loom. Pulled grill off to check all connections he mentioned, then traced wire back underneath and up to battery positive lead. After pulling back the heat shrink stuff, there was a stray w...

Re: Clueless

Sounds a bit beyond my competence to be honest. no it's really, really easy, which is why I won't say on an open forum, main flash with ignition off bypasses ignition switch so yes test it to help prove the theory. Also check if the sidelights dim when you press the horn or put main beams on? OK, w...

Re: Clueless

If you are happy to hot wire it to by pass ignition switch I can PM you how? easy to do Sounds a bit beyond my competence to be honest. I will try the flash without ignition tomorrow p...

Re: Clueless

My money is on the Light switch but could be the stalk, check the flash with ignition off. Could be the fuse connections too if one headlight was on and not the other ( different fuses each side ) but sounds like they are coming and going together so probably not that. Horn separate issue Horn sepa...

Re: Clueless

And do your side lights/ tail lights work? Yes, not blade fuses, it has the ones with the thin wire strip. All other lights work. Side lights, which it stays on when trying main and full beam. Dash lights, tail lights, interior lights, hazards and fog lights all work. Wipers work, heater works. Hav...

Re: Clueless

Yippee... Got full headlights back and horn.... BUT.... Turned off and on again, back to square 1, no mai...

Thanks very much, I will get a new battery and do exactly as the diagram shows. Mine only has probes though and not crocodile clips. What reading should I have, when trying this... Zero?

Re: Clueless

So to understand, when I buy a new battery, with everything off, hook up black negative lead but leave red positive lead off. Touch multi meter onto red lead to get a reading? Sorry for coming across as dumb but this is all very new to me. great its 10A meter will draw you a diagram Thanks ...

Re: Clueless

Re: Clueless

13.7 on batt shows its charging, usually a bit higher but it's charging a dead batt so bound to be a bit lower 9.6 on.a dead battery means its dead forever, it will never hold charge again, get a new one and buy a smart charger. can you keep the van on charge when not used? if not then disconnect b...
