Hello curious people, so to update you all Mark from Suffolk campers came up to look at the van for us and found that there is damage to a valve, its not startable and we will be flatbedding the van to ipswich later this week, for him to work on it in May when he is not so busy. When he has the engi...

Please let us know what the actual problem was when Suffolk Campers have fixed it You were right indeed but how can I dispute labour costs with a garrage, I'm obliged...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
£3k isn't actually a lot for a full rebuild, it's about right without new heads, £3.5k with. (The parts alone can be well over £2k.) The point is there's no evidence in the description of events that suggests you need a rebuild. Your engine is repairable, and probably a straightforward job at that....

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
Hi, How far are you away from Ipswich? £3k for an engine rebuild sounds a lot. Especially as it was running before you dropped it off. It sounds like they don't know what they are doing. I hire and restore just VW T.25's drop me an email if I can help as I see this all too often unfortunately. Rega...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
This post/thread concerns me too! I am not sure if this is a simple pushrod/rocker/adjustable tappet job or whether there are hydraulic tappets confusing the issue but I see two scenarios: First case - locking nut loosens and adjuster unscrews causing tappet noise to increase with little effect oth...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
Hi, sorry to hear of your woes but I wouldn't be able to fit you in until June now, as we're fully booked. The lack of compression after work on rockers can be checked by backing all adjusters off to just touching, then test for compression. You might find it magically returns... Sent from my ONEPL...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
The engine would not have been running if there were no compressions. Losing a nut from the rockers does happen but normally does not do any damage especially as the engine was still running and presumably apart from the noise you didn't notice any difference with the engine and certainly would not...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
OK, so you have limited mechanical knowledge - that can make it harder to help as well, let's see. There are a number of things here that don't make sense to me The engine was running fine, until you heard the rattling - was there still decent power You were recovered by the RAC to a garage - is it...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
May be too far for you but, following all the recommendations on this site, I took my van to campershack Nr Grantham. I am Nr Downham Market and it is a little over 60 miles. Very impressed, Andrew listened to my engine and his diagnosis was proved correct and the engine now being repaired as you c...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
Well it seems that the rocker arms on the side of the engine that have not been changed have damaged valves due to the rockers being too tight and there is some compression on the side where the nut fell off but it is low. The mechanic says if he has to renew the cylinder heads on the side with the...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
Not centering the push rod makes it around 5mm longer - I know as I managed to do it (more than once). If you wind the adjuster screw all the way out, the valve is still open as the push rod is long enough to still operate the rocker a little. With the screw in a nominal 'two turns' I suspect it wo...

Re: changed rocker arms and no compressions
Dare I suggest the mechanic could have not centered the pushrods and this can cause damage I have been told.
