Re: Twin Weber Carb Issues

My ICT's run really sweet even at low speed/rpm. The only issue I had was once the engine was warm it would 'miss' a beat intermittently which was annoying. Realised this was down to poor fuel choice (ethanol loaded supermarket stuff) using decent super unleaded it runs like a sewing machine, the So...

Re: No Idle on 1600 Aircooled ct engine.

What carb(s) ? If its the same as a 2.0 CU I'd tap the idle solenoid at the back of the LH carb to see if its sticking - mine used to. Also if you've suffered any backfires I'd also check the welch plug at the rear of the carb as this can cause a big air leak if its missing and lead to rough running.

Re: Twin Weber Carb Issues

Sorry for the late reply .....

Yes, simply fit it after the pump and tee-out to carbs. you need 6mm fittings on the regulator. I used a cheap pressure gauge off ebay - but dont leave it fitted (some people do), they can fail and leak fuel into your engine compartment

Re: Twin Weber Carb Issues

One more thing after reading about your hot start issues - What manifolds are you using ? there are some very short ones (Empi ?) that are prone to act like heatsinks and can give you 'misting' of the fuel in the carb barrel - its actually boiling the fuel. It could be if you have similar very short...

Re: Twin Weber Carb Issues

......spindle wear is quite common due to the pressure of the throttle linkage There should be no pressure on the throttle linkage ! - you have an additional option here, take it to someone that understands the carbs and can set them up and sort the linkage. Mike Leather if your near St Albans, Her...

Re: Twin Weber Carb Issues

ICT's will run like crap if the fuel pressure is too high. It will also cause very rapid wear on your float valve What fuel pump are you using ? you can buy electric pumps that output 2.1psi if your running the standard mechanical pump it could be putting out close to 5psi (my newly replaced one was...

Re: Could a Tacho cause coil issues ?

its a standard Powerspark svda, it came with a matched coil allegedly Bosch but black, coils two and three were 'Viper Sport' and were Powersparks recommended fit but got them to swap the totally failed one for a Bosch blue one which so far is behaving fine. The tacho wire runs under the body and up...

Could a Tacho cause coil issues ?

Hi Guys 2.0 CU Aircooled Back in February I fitted a Tacho, a week or so later the indication was intermittently erratic indicating anywhere between 3000 - 4500. Two days after this the Hall sensor in the dizzy failed. Couldnt get a rebuild kit at the time so I went for an aftermarket dizzy (Powersp...

Re: 2.0 Aircooled

I fitted a rev counter and oil temp (sump) in mine. The rev counter is useful not only for seeing what speed the engine is at but also impending ignition failure - the tachometric feed is from the coil and when running on original VW coil and distributor it started misreading, instead of a normal st...

Aircooled aftermarket cam valve clearances

Hi Guys I want to check/adjust the valve clearances on my 2.0ltr CU Aircooled engine but unsure as to what I should set them: When I purchased the van the previous owner told me it had an aftermarket cam specifically for a camper and solid lifters. On checking with him he informs me it was of americ...

Re: CU Cooling Flaps - Fitting into an installed engine

OK quick update ..... You DO NOT need to drop the engine in order to fit the flaps :D dizzy out, carbs off, rear LH tinware off and then top tin screws out and there is enough room to lift the tins enough to drop the flaps in and connect the oil cooler one onto the pegs. A little piece of wood helpe...

Re: CU Cooling Flaps - Fitting into an installed engine

You will need to drop the engine to remove those tins. Its next to impossible to fit the tins and seal with engine in place. Next to impossible is better than impossible ! I'll give it a shot. If not I guess I only need to drop the engine a few inches rather than remove it so can leave most bits co...

Re: CU Cooling Flaps - Fitting into an installed engine

I remembered your earlier post for some reason Lower tinware and cooling flaps missing  I hope it hasn't been run for very long The lower tinware was promptly sourced and installed. I've had the flaps for a while but until recently not had time to fit them. I have been using the van on occas...

CU Cooling Flaps - Fitting into an installed engine

Hi Guys My 2.0 Aircooled CU has been missing its cooling flaps since purchase. I have sourced replacement parts inluding a working thermostat. Is it possible to remove the upper tinware to install the flaps with the engine installed in the van? I'm guessing I may have to remove the carbs to remove t...

Aircooled CU 2.0 Tinware

Having recently purchased my first ever VW a 1983 2.0 Aircooled poptop T25 I was slightly ruffled when I realised ALL the lower tinwear was missing. The previous owner had rebuilt the engine and was aided by a leading Aircooled engine builder of repute. He thinks he was told the lower tinware is 'op...
