Re: Changing the tax class

It's already a camper van so I'm not changing it so I'm a bit confused as to how I can do this.

Re: Water tank filling

Do people fill before they go away or do they fill up when they get there to save weight on the journey

Water tank filling

Hi I've just got around to looking at the water tank and filling of it. Now as I have never had to do this before I am looking for some advice. This is what I have http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k600/Steven_Angus/20180128_154850_zpstrmlervu.jpg I can get some tank cleaning liquid to make sure i...

Re: weird problem

I understand where your coming from and I do appreciate the write up you did. I have no idea what was done when the engine was converted and it could have been stripped without making accurate marks for lining up again, and the timing could be all lost. I have tried forwarding the timing and retardi...

Re: weird problem

update on the problem, I went to a local specialist who after just looking at the engine for about a minute said I would never be able to set the timing as its needs an ECU, now as I don't have one was it any wonder I could never get it starting right. So the upshot is to source another manual injec...

Re: weird problem

I got the dowel in properly using a 6mm drill bit (the reverse end) and went about trying to adjust the timing it didn't look out at all but still struggles to start when cold. Should I try and retard the timing and see if that helps. If so where should I get the Mark in the bell housing to the left...

Re: weird problem

Update!!! I got around to starting the van up today with help and as soon as it started I connected the Solenoid. Now when I did the I heard the engine noise change to more like a tractor sound and the white smoke went away, then again I did the same to listen more closely and got the same results, ...

Re: weird problem

What I would try is to start the engine then connect your solenoid and see if it continues to run and without smoke. What we both are getting at here is basically the solenoid seems to be over advancing the pump timing ( assuming that the timing is spot on it shouldn't do this) or the glow plugs ar...

Re: weird problem

So i am still no further forward as it looks like the timing is set right as far as i can tell. I have checked the Ohms in the glow plugs and they seem OK, it looks like a big job to remove them and I don't have the confidence to do that. When I try and start the engine, with the Solenoid connected,...

Re: weird problem

I just want the engine to fire up every time and without the spluttering at the start. I thought that the solenoid would solve that. I don't have any cables that I know of with the cold start so I'm not sure.
I have the same set up as colinthefox so I was going by his guide.

Re: weird problem

I have checked everything and it all seems ok, set up wise that is.
It is still not starting with the commencement of fuel solenoid connected, but it will start with it not. It runs a bit ropey to start with and give a little white smoke but then clears ok.
Any more ideas?

Re: weird problem

The white marks were all there before !
Does the dowel only fit at the very top as mine is at the side, do I have to turn the crank to get it at the top to adjust

Re: weird problem

I have rotated the bell housing to TDC and I have taken a picture of that I have. http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k600/Steven_Angus/20180107_120727_zpsiqzbiqdw.jpg It looks a mess where it has been adjusted before. Can you tell me if I am in the right position to adjust the timing or does it loo...

Re: weird problem

Ah ok that could be it. yes the engine was already in when I bought the van but it would never start very well until I either removed the fuel pump and disconnected the AoF solenoid. so big question is can I adjust the injection myself or is it a garage job. If I can do it myself then how do I do it.
