Re: Aux Pump Temp Switch location 1.6jx
Thanks everyone. The wire broke off when I pulled the terminal so must have been a crappy connection, when I earthed the terminal it didn’t work but with a new terminal and bridging between the switch body and terminal it runs great. And all glow plugs changed now, starts fine too :ok Much appreciated

Re: Aux Pump Temp Switch location 1.6jx
That’s great, thanks. It has a metal coolant flange, I’ll investigate this afternoon. I might have missed location 2 so thanks to the wiring diagram and this info I’ll be able to trace the fault. There is definitely something amiss with the glow plug circuit so the two could be related.

Mine’s been tucked away for a year at a little garage in Lincolnshire, should be back on the rd pretty soon.

Re: Aux Pump Temp Switch location 1.6jx
Thanks, great help. I didn’t realised there was a relay involved, thought it was a direct ground to the switch.
Are you the Hackney Syncro man? I have the gold syncro often driving round East London, though its in the garage being restored at the mo.

Aux Pump Temp Switch location 1.6jx
Hello 80-90ers My aux water pump was knackered and had been for some time. When I fit the new one it is a good pump but the switch is not activating it, works great when I earth it with a jumper from the battery. So there must be a fault with the switch or earth wire from switch to the pump. My prob...

Re: Anyone tried gear reduction starter
Done and ordered direct through powerlite with mounting adaptor to get the feed off the back, cheaper than most their suppliers and next day delivery.

Re: Anyone tried gear reduction starter
Did yours have the bush as part of the starter, i.e., remove bush and fit the new starter

Re: Anyone tried gear reduction starter
Looks like it came out the same factory ! Was it an easy fit? Did you get the converter bracket to fit the terminal off the back? This stockist has them on eBay http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/PowerLite-For-VW-Transporter-High-Torque-Starter-Motor-/232282920835?epid=1745114709&hash=item3615241783%3Ag%3A...

Anyone tried gear reduction starter
I've changed my starter motor twice in the last 5 years which on a Syncro is a pretty annoying job. First was a recon Bosch second was a new Remy which has now turned into the starter equivalent of a sloth. It's not a job I want to repeat after this change and I no longer have a trade in for another...

Re: Bad earth
Also I disconnected both ends of the battery earth and thouroughly cleaned them. I fitted heavy duty earth from the starter bolt to the chassis last year and it all looks great and clean. Yesterday I also jumpered between battery - and earth to the starter and no joy. So I guess if it cranks by hand...

Re: Bad earth
The battery + cable didn't get hot, I'm going to try hand crank to see if the engine and AC pump is free. I already checked voltage at the starter and it's getting same as battery.
Really not looking forward to replacing the starter again, it's a syncro so it's a bit tight in there.

Re: Bad earth
Ok thanks. I tried to test the starter by jumping the spade to the main nut on the solonoid with the ignition on. Was this correct or should I connect the battery supply directly to the main nut on the solonoid. Nothing happened anyway The starter was a brand new aftermarket one and I replaced the o...

Bad earth
Hi all I've had some slow cranking no starting issues. Some new earth straps are on the way, I cleaned up the main battery earth but no joy. It does get very hot when cranked over so I'm guessing earths are the culprit. I previously did away with the nosecone earth and fitted a new starter earth as ...
