Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

Multisi thank you for clarifying.

That makes sense. Ok, well I’ll be sticking with the existing bolts then. I’ll reassemble and see how helpful my lubrication actually has been!

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

Update #4: Ok so I’ve received the two replacement pins, to try swap out the two non-original bolts. Out of interest they look like this https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220131/ae0f8ca6c7aaf3c66a42e11bf0fd0211.jpg Does anyone have any experience of these? Is there another half to ‘receive’ it? As ...

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

Update #3: Thanks to Aidan’s post and the Bentley manual I’ve decided to take the seat apart. I thought I’d update as there’s very few pics of the mechanism on the internet that I could find… https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220125/5f16f9a8431280e7088aa0e5e0085c5b.jpg So you need to pry this sprin...

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

Amazing answer, thanks Aidan!

Though ‘hitting it with a hammer’ would have been a bit easier. I shall reflect on all this and decide whether it’s worth trying to sort or whether I just live with a wobbly and mostly-unadjustable backrest.

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

Update#2: 8mm Allen key has removed the only obviously removable aspect of the side plate. Also, as one side’s bolt was loose, before I did this I tightened up both sides first in case this fixed the wobble problem - it didn’t. It seems whilst the bolt helps hold the upper and lower parts of the sea...

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

Hmm that’s good to know, thanks David. Well, it speaks to a long standing issue, but is helpful for me to know anyway. I’ll update once I’ve got a proper set of alan keys!

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

A possible culprit for the annoying fore -aft backrest travel could be the bolt that I can see as per pic - there’s a silver bolt on both sides of the seat, and I can see that they are lose and slide up and down when the backrest slips. To tighten I’ll need to first get the side plate off. Are these...

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

Update #1: I can indeed see the spring, which appears to be attached at both ends, but can’t get the side plate off for a good look yet as I need a larger Alan key…

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

No, sorry this is just a fault with the driver’s side seat. These are my second pair of seats and I only have this issue with this one seat: the back rest has acquired quite a bit of (forward-backward) travel/play in it, and the lever to operate the recline function hardly ever engages. Any idea of...

Re: Standard seat recline mechanism

Can anyone point me to guidance for fixing a defunct tilt/recline mechanism? I don’t know if there was variance between the styles but these are I believe early caravelle captains seat (non-adjustable arm rests). I would have thought this would have come up before but this thread is the closest I’ve...

-30mm spring load capacity?

Hi all. I have a 1989 Autohomes komet mk2 hightop T25 (2.1 DJ 5-speed manual). As i understand it, it's still on original springs (and original 14" steels), and will be the original weight (1752kg) therefore it should still have the original stated load capacity of 638kg. I would like to drop t...

RnR bed tweek/upgrade idea?

Hi guys. I’m looking for some inspiration. I’ve recently learned about the exciting looking ‘Westy Lounge’ rear facing bed prop thing from Westfalias - and it’s got me thinking. Has anyone adapted the rear section of their RnR bed (over the engine) so that the rear end of the cushion and board hinge...

Re: Main Beam Warning Light Failure

Glad you got the light fixed - I was off in the van for a long weekend or would have contacted you as I had the exact same problem recently. With AngeloEvs  help sourcing a bulb - and like you removing the bulb with long nosed pliers - then cut LED legs - slot LED in place and job done. Pity you ha...
