Re: New upper wishbone suspension bushing squeak / creak

Checked with him and they're definitely spot welded in. Unfortunately we're off for a European trip for a few months tomorrow.

Could it be possible the weld has failed?

Thanks for the replies again!

Re: New upper wishbone suspension bushing squeak / creak

balls! I had read that febi were good ones, so a bit annoyed about that... I assume the bushes were spot welded, but I'll double check with the mechanic. I've sprayed loads and loads of lubricant (silicone grease) which makes no difference at all to the noise. Also no noise coming from other bushes....

New upper wishbone suspension bushing squeak / creak

Hello gurus, We've recently replaced the upper wishbone bushings on our T25. For the first few days it was perfect and silent, however the passenger side front bushing has started to creak / squeak very loudly. I know it's that bushing as I can feel it if I touch that nut (ha) and rock the van. We t...

Re: Extreme Cold Weather Start Problem

Quick update: we played around with the spring a little bit, gave it a squirt of wd40 and stood there talking about how we could possibly tighten it. Quickly pulled up the throttle and like magic the spring did it's job and closed the choke flap - it definitely was not before! Tested it a couple mor...

Re: Extreme Cold Weather Start Problem

Cheers, digging a bit deeper and with help from James who makes these excellent vids: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amnqCUSTnUw , we think the springs I mentioned are in fact the problem. We opened the housing containing the bi-metallic coil. Coil looks good and is in the right position for cold. ...

Re: Extreme Cold Weather Start Problem

OK bit more investigating today, and feel like I'm making progress. 1. When cold, the choke flap is fully open. 2. The van will start eventually when this flap is open, but will cut out as soon as we touch the gas pedal. 3. We tried depressing the gas pedal once didn't move the choke flap. 4. We tri...

Re: Extreme Cold Weather Start Problem

Great, we also took a video, I repeatedly pump the gas pedal and the choke flap slowly closes, when it's nearly closed BAM it fires up. Read in this thread: http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=139262 I should only be pressing the pedal once. A VW mechanic in Germany told us twice when it's c...

Re: Why does she cut out?

Give the carb a clean with some carb cleaner spray - our jets were a bit blocked and caused similar symptoms. Worth a shot for a couple of quid!
Sounds like the fan belt needs adjusting / replacing to stop the screeching. On the cold start, I think you should be looking at the cold start system as suggested above and check the ignition timing
Will have a look and take some pics of the carb tomorrow. Wond...

Suspension Bushings - Mechanic Recommendation Teeside

I want to replace the upper wishbone bushings on our very squeaky T25. Looking for a mechanic recommendation ideally close to Hartlepool but willing to travel. I understand it's a bit of a tricky job, but haven't yet found a mechanic willing to do it or give me an accurate quote! Someone told us up ...

Re: Extreme Cold Weather Start Problem

Quite possibly - I can hear the click in the engine bay when depressing the gas pedal, is that the click i'm looking for. Apologies - we are new to this!

Do I need to take the pancake cover of the carb, and watch flap to see if it moves when gas pedal is depressed?

Extreme Cold Weather Start Problem

Hi everyone, I appreciate there is thousands of threads on this - we've read a lot (and tried an awful lot too!), but hoping someone has a bright idea for our particular symptoms. Apologies for the essay - just trying to give you as much info as possible. We've got an '86 1.9 watercooled, that's is ...
