Re: 2wd suspension upgrade

Sounds good will have to look into that, the full height springs would compress with the weight but could still look too high.

Re: 2wd suspension upgrade

Thinking of doing my own upgrade just on the rear to cope with the extra weight of the EG33 H6 engine, last time it was in the multivan the rear looked lower than the front so i bought some heavy duty vw shocks but the info from the vw parts listing seem to say the heavy duty shocks are for the tall...

Re: 2wd suspension upgrade

If you want height then just go for standard vw height used on basic models like panel vans, cheaper as well. I have some nice low mileage front springs if you want full standard height , have sold the rears. I only use and like the vw 30mm lower set up.

Re: 1981 T25 gearbox problem (possibly)

Sometimes the clutch shaft arms can fail at the welds, happened to a low mileage van i had in the late eighties. That had a hydraulic clutch but the shaft is the same.

Re: Rear jacking points shot?

Yes with the trailing arm removed and before you cut anything out put the threaded bar in place through the inner body mount and make something that will give you the forward position of the outer body mount. Write down the measurements and take photos of the threaded bar set up taking note of where...

Re: 2wd suspension upgrade

The 30mm lower vw factory suspension is a great set up, handles well and gives a smooth ride . I wouldnt go high with a high top.

Re: Rear jacking points shot?

A short rod can be used when working on one side , go to the restoration section and look at Big blue van scroll done to some of the last photos of page 1.  , it is used to measure the distance between the inner and outer, an extra marker plate is put on the end of the rod to set the outer mount f...

Re: Rear jacking points shot?

The rod needs to go through the 2 inner trailing arm mounts so you will need to take measurements or fix a marker near the mount thats going to be removed, the rear hub unit with brake drum can be removed from the trailing arm without having to undo the axle nut, but   the 4 rusty bolts that attach ...

Re: Are these rock 'n roll hinges?

Could be from a fold out sofa bed, the plywood base boards should end up close together when the bed is opened out flat. I would buy some new hinges and do a proper job, it looks a bit naf.

Re: Petrol in the engine case.

How did you resolve it? It happened almost 30 years ago and cant remember if i changed the pump, the fuel got in and  raised the oil level, this happened shortly after an oil change and i thought that i overfilled the oil so drain it down but it ended up to low and thin and a circlip came out of po...

Re: Problem getting into gears 5 spd - Help identifying

If the clutch feels spongy then the hydraulic parts need attention, there isnt any mention in your posts of work being done to the slave or master cylinders .Try bleeding the system.
