We have a 1.9dg Petrol 1989 pierberg 2e3 carb We cant get it to start on choke, have to put foot to floor to get it to go, cleaned jets new gaskets, shutoff solenoid clicks, choke flap doesnt seem to stay open when choke is off, and looks like the fast idle screw when choke is off is touching the to...

We just started to take the old vacuum hose and non return valve off (as possible vacuum leak) to the inlet manifold, and noticed its black, watery maybe petrol? in the elbow to the non return valve, haven't fitted new hose and valve yet in case carb need looking at? Is that normal please, its a 1.9...

hi carrera its blue spark, so good news there, will be having another look at weekend, and putting some fuel in top of carb and see what happens, cheers for your advice, will let you know what happens

Thanks Paperhouselad, will try when back from work, yes annoying having to go to work when rather be doing camper, but thats life :D , be worth it in the end, racking my brains as to what it could be, especially as it did run last week (but had to keep foot on throttle), and now this, will keep you ...

Tried to start it again yesterday, it backfired, but didn't start. checked the spark plugs wet with petrol, checked battery again 12v, cleaned carb jets and cone filter, not to sure what to try next?

Hi Itchy just checked the timing, its pretty well set the same as your info, not getting any firing up at all now, battery fully charged, cleaned all contacts and earths, it there any way of testing ignition coil, cold it be that?

After rebuilding my 1.9dg petrol engine (1989), started it up the other day, it ran ok apart from you had to put foot on throttle otherside it would stall, the next day was going to check tickove, but it would fire but not keep going. Have checked plugs fuel is getting through and checked HT leads, ...

Got a great pair of heads off oilrag, all nice and clean no cracks , this is whats he's done : , both have been cleaned ,lightly re-faced ,valves re lapped in ,new collets and all inlets have new stem seals fitted.,all springs in service limits , all threads are good and clean.no cracks brtween seat...
