Re: It took you how long? - Back by popular demand
Following oil change last Summer, I had a slight oil leak at the sump plug - required a little glug of oil every couple of months to top-up. A couple of weeks ago I tweaked the plug up a bit and stopped the leak. Duhhh. Why we do/don't do some things, when in retrospect it's f*cking daft to/not to, ...

Re: Replacing the leisure battery charger (1990 Joker)
The original BBB (black box) has two outputs, it charges both leisure and starter batteries on separate outputs. This means if you want like for like options are limited and expensive. The way I see it there are several options: 1) fit a single output smart charger to the leisure battery but ensure...

Re: Early 1.9DG - Starts, runs for a moment, dies.
All sorted. Van now runs fine.
Choke pull-down arrived, so I fitted that to the rebuilt carb and installed. All vac pipes replaced. Bus runs like a champ once more.
I'll still investigate the diz vac advance and make sure it's 100%.
Thanks for your help and suggestions/advice, folk.

Which then affects running
Thanks Kev. I'll get on and straighten them all out.

Re: Early 1.9DG - Starts, runs for a moment, dies.
Brake Servo Vac hose seems to be in good shape. I haven't pulled it off and performed extensive investigation/testing, on visual inspection and some prodding/poking, it doesn't look particularly gnarly. Still awaiting arrival of the replacement choke pull-down unit. It's with Royalmail, so it ought ...

Re: Early 1.9DG - Starts, runs for a moment, dies.
Thanks for giving me that in dumbed-down speak; just what the doctor ordered at the moment! I've probably seen it a hundred times and associated "fat pipe not connected to airbox = coolant pipe", so assumed it to be part of the cooling system. I shall add it to the list of things to take a...

Re: Early 1.9DG - Starts, runs for a moment, dies.
Thanks CovKid - is it bad if I say "I'm glad it's not just me"? :run I've had my carb in bits since last week and am waiting for another part to arrive (choke pull-down doing nothing) before completing and putting the carb back on. Don't recall the float needle being tricky to remove or ot...

Re: Spluttery 1.9dg with pierberg 2e3
This sounds pretty close to a thread I have open at the moment - only mine won't even generate enough oomph to move the van without dieing; http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=165091 Do let us know what your issue turns out to be, just in case I'm suffering the same/similar issue; i...

Re: Early 1.9DG - Starts, runs for a moment, dies.
kev - no screws had been touched prior to this issue appearing (worked one week, had this issue the next). Ruled out fuel supply to the carb (filters changed and then fed the pump supply directly to a jar and cranked; plenty of fuel splitting out). Spark plugs had been changed the week before, but t...

Re: Early 1.9DG - Starts, runs for a moment, dies.
There is also the idle speed fuel cut off. Often called the anti dieseling valve. If it's faulty it won't allow the engine to idle. But it will rev happily. I checked that one yesterday with a 9v battery, and that was happily opening and closing on contact. So, I don't think that had anything to do...

Re: Replacing the leisure battery charger (1990 Joker)
If you're referring to the black box under the rear seat/bed, replace it with a Victron smart charger. It's quite literally a modern equivalent of ye olde buzzing black box, complete with separate/independent outputs for leisure and starter batteries (same as your black box). You can use all the exi...

Re: Early 1.9DG - Starts, runs for a moment, dies.
Part way through my rebuild on the 2e3 carb. Testing every component that I've re-used as I go. Testing the choke pull-down unit, and when I suck on the vacuum tube the unit kinda wheezes at me and doesn't move. (Really, it's not me wheezing!). I'm assuming this unit is toast and needs replacement, ...
