Re: what is this hook for ??

The hook is to hold up the accelerator cable, stopping it droop onto the gearbox etc. and giving the cable a straightish track into the carburettor of the DG engine.

Re: Which Tyres?

Thanks for your help. I think I will try some 205/70s, that is if I can find some! It will be interesting to see if I can tell any difference in the ride and fuel economy?

Which Tyres?

I have an 1984 Devon Moonraker running on alloy 14" x 6J wheels. The same size as the VW OEM alloy wheels? I have been using standard 14"x 182 Toyo tyres for some time, which have been very good, but think it is now time to get new tyres. What I want are tyres that will iron out the harshn...

Re: Bell housing oil leak

Thanks shepster for your information. I have been quite surprised that nobody has used a speedisleeve to repair their flywheel but I have decided to fork out the money and buy a new flywheel anyway. The only problem is that the shims for the flywheel end-play are like hen's teeth! I have obtained a ...

Bell housing oil leak

My van DJ engine, has a small oil leak from the bell housing, some of which must burn away on the exhaust. The only evidence is a small drip on the central exhaust bracket but there are no marks on the driveway. The oil must be coming from the engine as the oil is dirty and the I know the gearbox oi...

Re: Coolant Pipe. Left Head To Coolant Ring

I put a recon engine into my van and it took me a long time to find were the water weep was coming from. At one time a thought it was a crack in the new cylinder head. Eventually I put the old pipe back on - no leak! The new ones have a fault somewhere in their construction. I bought mine from VW He...

Re: Auto Choke - Which Part - Easy Job?

I'm confused - Which bit of the carb are you after? The auto-choke is the bit shown in DoubleOseven's photo. The black bit that your Hoffman link goes to is the second throttle actuator and nothing to do with the choke or starting? Have a look at James Akers excellent video on You Tube and this migh...

Re: Choke pull down restricter, advice/help required please

Glad I have been of some use! The annoying thing about the Pierburg Carb is that there does not seem to be a manual that covers all the changes to the carb fitted to the T3. I would assume being as your van is 1983 and mine is 1984 the early ones had the restrictor built into the carb and the later ...

Thanks Tony t25t25 I have downloaded it to add to my other 3 pierburg manuals. It’s amazing that each one has something extra in it that the others haven’t!

Re: Choke pull down restricter, advice/help required please

Before you put a restrictor in the pipe to the pull down check if there is already a restrictor built into the main body of the carb.
I have two carbs, 1 carb has a plain hole into the Venturi the other has the restriction in the hole.

Pierberg on DJ 2.1 engine.

I have been running my rebuilt 2.1 engine on a Pierberg Carb. I believe that quite a few people have done this with good results. I would like to ask for information concerning jetting and set up etc. Could people who have done this change let me know what they have done? Mine seems to run okay but ...

Flywheel Shims

I have just been looking at the design of the end-float shims behind the flywheel for a DJ engine and have been wondering how they are supposed to work? Obviously they fill up the space between the flywheel and crankcase to stop the crankshaft going backwards and forwards too much, but are they thru...

Re: Hesitation from idling

People who replied to my original query might be interested to know I have solved the problem. By accident! I had just fitted a DJ engine 2.1 engine to replace the 1.9 DG but running it on the Pierburg carb. Being a 1984 van it had the old exhaust system which fitted with no problems. However, wanti...

Re: exhaust silencer ideas.

The early Just Kampers SS exhaust systems where made by JP Exhausts in Congleton. Just Kampers then used the design to have them made cheaper? in China. JP Exhausts have just made me a complete system and I am very pleased with it. They say it is guarenteed for the life of the vehicle. The silencer ...
