AEF PAS pump innards/idler?
Hello all, I have had a recent engine change from a CS to AEF engine from a Polo. The guy who did a good job on converting it, removed the bits from inside the PAS pump to utilise it as an idler puller, retaining the serpentine belt set up. On running, it was noticed that the alternator belt was che...

Re: Northwest Engine Swap?
so I have sourced a low mileage 1Y engine, now I am looking for suggestions/recommendations of garages who can do this work, preferably local to Lancashire who could do it before Camperjam!
Any help greatly appreciated.

Northwest Engine Swap?
Hello all, My 1.6D CS engine is getting long in the tooth and I am looking into changing to either the 2.0 GTi or a 1.9 TDi of some description, as it is diesel converted already (from a petrol model around 10 yrs ago), I have most of the parts to do this. The issue I am having is finding someone wi...

Re: Broken down right at the end of the holiday
I am assuming that the wheel bearings are tapered roller type. In this case are you sure that they were not over tightened? Best check the other side. I have always tightened the nut spinning the wheel until the play is eliminated then back it off until the merest hint of play is felt. This can be ...

Re: Broken down right at the end of the holiday
Sounds like the same thing that happened to me on our way back from camper jam, our 3rd trip out, The wheel bearing had spectacularly collapsed and a lot of heat etc. Wheel bearing simple enough, but the stub axle was bent when I got to look at it. As stated, not cheap. There is a company which do o...

recovery/tow in Lancs recommendations
Hello all, I don't think this fits any of the topics as a one. Basically to cut a long story short, coming back from camper jam last year we had an epic fornt wheel bearing failure. This bent the stub axle and when removing everything it was clear new brake calipers were needed as these were definit...

Re: Camper Jam Fail, Bearing? :(
Quick update: - Upon further inspection, the calipers are both duff so I have ordered some new ones and taken the decision to refurb properly so will delay the MOT to Sept/October, so that the MOT wont fall 'mid season'. Going to try a thread file later this week on the stub axle and if not order an...

Re: Camper Jam Fail, Bearing? :(
Lets try not to go there eh? If the new nut wont pull up then yes you need another upright, a pic might help to be 100% sure. Does the van have PAS or not? It is none PAS, will try and get a picture up but looks more or less like those in the pictures shown in the linked thread. Just trying t25dire...

Re: Camper Jam Fail, Bearing? :(
Slightly early celebration, when the bearing collapsed, it has obviously damaged the stub axle thread which meant my shiny new brake disc and bearing assembly wont go on. The hub nut won't bite with the thrust washer, so looks like I might need a new steering knuckle unit. I don't think there is eno...

Re: Camper Jam Fail, Bearing? :(
Well the good news is, my super grip impact socket arrived and lo and behold a little heat and a breaker bar meant I could loosen the caliper carrier. The bearing is well and truly knackered! some melted mess which was the bearings innards meant removing the disc was difficult but manageable. The in...

Re: Camper Jam Fail, Bearing? :(
Gents. Thanks for your help. The passenger side was the same but less rounded. I have tonight borrowed a breaker bar and impact socket so full ahead tomorrow hopefully.
Fingers crossed back on road to mot shortly

Re: Camper Jam Fail, Bearing? :(
Definitely the bearing gone, as soon as I removed the centre dust cap some bits and swarf fell out! Slight snag however, It took a good while to loosen the wheel bolts with heat and finally got jacked up. Started with the duff side, managed to remove the brake pads (look like girling units (D reg Ap...

Re: Camper Jam Fail, Bearing? :(
Thank you to all! the previous owner was very naïve on the engineering front so could have been taken for a ride by a garage. I agree that MOT's not gained by you are not worth the paper they are printed on, only gives you a year to find out what is up with it! Similarly avoid fresh paint! I accepte...
