Re: Rear drum
CLA='Clean-Lube-&-Adjust'. Soz it may be from another field such as cameras, not vans ! The 'grey stuff' is the solid lubricant paste the VW manual says to use on the pivots and where the shoes slide on the backplate. The adjuster always benefits from a cleanup and re-grease, I use a waterproof ...

Re: Rear drum
A CLA probably wouldn't hurt ?
I always use that grey paste on the pivot points, maybe its VW's 'special sauce' as I've not had much bother with rear brakes so far.

Re: Late Fuse Box Internal Wiring Diagram
The terminal numbers are from the DIN standard. The main differences in T3 wiring, aside from pre/post 85, is between different countries which had different standards for things like lighting. Also there were optional things like rear wash-wipe, extra features in some editions (eg. Carat) and so on...

Re: Late Fuse Box Internal Wiring Diagram
The connections inside the relay plate are shown in the grey section at the top of each page in the wiring diagrams. I'm wanting to add some circuits to my relatively basic van (headlight relays, twin tone horn, timed interior light relay etc) and would rather use some of the vacant spaces on the bo...

Re: 1.6TD engine I.D.
In ETKA, for the T2, under 'V-Pages', 'Engine Numbers Overview', the following dates are shown: 31.12.1984 JX000814 31.01.1985 JX002301 So that would put your engine manufacture between those two dates, of course that does not indicate when it was factory refurbished, which could presumably have bee...

Re: JX Engine Mods
It sounds like you're not getting sufficient turbo boost and possibly timing/fuel could benefit from adjustment. Getting a boost guage would be a useful start. Then assuming all the mechanicals are healthy it should just be a matter of setting the engine up following the workshop manuals. Servicing ...

Re: CV Boots - part 2
FWIW, both my 1990 built Syncro's have no clips on the rear boots, but DO have clips on the front inners. The clips are also included in the VAG and GKN front boot kits.

Heads-up re. LED brake lamps causing TDI limp mode
Just a quick heads-up to anyone running a VAG drive-by-wire engine including any 1993-2005 TDI (and probably later), or petrol engine from ~2000 onward, with a harness NOT from Syncrosport. The standard wiring for these engines includes two ECU inputs from the brake switch, which are a safety featur...

Re: AFN TDI Throttle problem
Thanks Mark, you are very welcome. TBH it only took a couple of minutes in VCDS to see the likely cause - brake switch inputs incorrect - then another hour plus delving around in the rats-nest (Mark's words) of that TDI conversion, before finding the actual issue. The ECU brake switch inputs are ver...

Re: T3 with AAZ engine
I've done a few wiring harnesses for French folks doing swaps, and I'm aware of their restrictions, so have asked about it a couple of times. All I can say is that is may help if your brother/sister/uncle etc. is the CT tester ! Sorry that's not much help to you, but there may be ways and means of g...

Re: Syncropendence - Provisional Booking Form
I appreciate the right to personal freedom but you have to take ownership of your choices and accept that there will be consequences. Especially if that choice poses a risk to other people. ..so long as there is a legal basis, so for example, I understand health care workers will be required to be ...

Re: Horn Upgrade/Fix
Twin-tone horns from a later car, fed via a relay makes an excellent upgrade. I use Golf4 horns on both my vans. AFAIK only the Carat had this setup and it uses a #53 relay in position #6. However the connection at the back of the relay plate is at plug 'L' (grey 4-pin,171 971 997) which is rather s...

Re: Syncropendence - Provisional Booking Form
This 'private event' idea doesn't stand up, most public spaces such as shops and so on are privately owned, and whether they're in public or private hands they are all subject to UK legislation. For example you might want to look at Section 29 of the Equality Act. I am fine with 'non-discriminatory'...

Re: Syncropendence - Provisional Booking Form
Thanks for organizing this event and for putting up the booking form. However, I've noted there is a section on the form requiring covid vaccination status, and some 'fine print' near the bottom, stating 'the club reserves the right to refuse entry with regards to Covid19 vaccination status'. That i...
