Re: 1.9 to 2.1 conversion
Yeh, you seem to have the pierburg setup, which is adequate on the 1.9 Never had a lorry pass me going up hill either. There are a couple of steep hills near me that I have no issue climbing ( even if it means dropping into third ) Is yours fully loaded and carrying lots of weight? Also yes, that v...

Re: 1.9 to 2.1 conversion
I have a 1989 1.9 petrol T25 with 65000 miles. I am looking for more oomph. Is it possible to convert my 1.9 to 2.1? Can anyone please suggest the best way to get a power increase? Also noticed a company called VW speed shop do a fuel injection kit , has anyone any experience with this? Sorry if th...

Re: 17" Fuchs Replica Wheels with 215/60/17's?
It'll drive fine, 215/60s are a bit bigger than most people would choose on 17s (usually 50 or 55 profiles) and I think they could look a little bit odd. The JBW replica wheels are probably structurally fine, but the finish will be destroyed after one winter outside. If all you want is 5% more gea...

17" Fuchs Replica Wheels with 215/60/17's?
Hi all Could anyone please help me out choosing the correct wheel and tyre sizes for my needs? I’ve done a fair amount of reading up and used the online calculators available, but it’s so complex/confusing for a layman like me, I’m not sure if I’ve come up with the “right” answer? My van is an ’88 ...

Re: Gearbox Advice For Taller Gearing Please?
roughly a 8.8% difference in top gear between ABD 4 speed and AAP 5 Speed, 3600rpm becomes 3280rpm I have a refurbished rhd 5 speed gearstick and box under and front linkage in stock if you go that way; you can use the 4 speed stick and linkage set up but you'd drive it like a Syncro, under the gat...

Re: Gearbox Advice For Taller Gearing Please?
Thanks. I had just assumed my current 4 speed final drive was 4.83, but I don't know that for certain so will check the code on the box.
If it is, I'm aware changing for a 4.57 isn't a huge difference, but a roughly 10% or 350rpm drop at 70mph to me would be "worth it" I think?

Gearbox Advice For Taller Gearing Please?
Hi all. I’d really appreciate some gearbox advice please? I have an ’88 Autosleeper hightop which was originally a 1.9 but has recently had a recon 2.1DJ from the VW Engine Centre. Even though it’s still on the 1.9’s Pierburg there’s been a noticeable increase in torque/power and now it feels like i...

Re: Replace 1.9 Engine with 2.1 or Subaru?
I was thinking along the same lines, triumph2.5pi. I had a 1.9 and was becoming frustrated with the power when faced with the slightest incline, or if fully loaded for camping with the family, dog, bikes, kitchen sink, small nuclear reactor etc. It being a hightop probably didn't help. Subaru seem...

Re: Quality Accelerator Pedal?
Would be £15 inc post but as the ones from Brickwerks are vw quality reproductions there wouldnt be a need for a spare really. But i have the original vw nos parts here if you do. Pay pal is best. Thank you very much for the info . If the Brickwerks one is VW quality then no real need for a spare ...

Re: Quality Accelerator Pedal?
The genuine vw plastic pedal is a quality part and lasts a very long time, the aftermarket replacements are poor in comparison. i have several new genuine vw pedals for sale £10 each. I have actually already ordered one from Brickwerks as I needed a fast solution, but I'm tempted to take one of yo...

Re: Quality Accelerator Pedal?
What engine model is it? Do l recall correctly DJ 2.1 manual? Does your camper suffer from an unusually heavy accelerator pedal to depress? Mine used to be very heavy. It was a combination of a corroded linkage beneathe the pedal and a very worn cable. First bit cleaned and lubricated. Second bit r...

Quality Accelerator Pedal?
I've had two accelerator pedals snap at the hinge within a relatively short space of time. Is there a better quality replacement than the standard plastic one from the usual outlets? There's a nice billet one available one for Beetles but I can't find something similar for a T25: https://www.herita...

Re: Replace 1.9 Engine with 2.1 or Subaru?
Good to hear. 2.1 pulls better on hills I assume? I would say there's not a great noticeable difference in acceleration (apart from maybe at the top end, I don't know yet I'm still running it in!), but there's certainly more torque and it's most noticeable when climbing hills. I find you ca...
