Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Managed to get it to fire up. Played with the timing, although don't see how this could have changed. Aligned engine to TDC, rotor arm aligned with notch in dizzy. Tried to fire so I would turn the dizzy slightly anti-clockwise (when viewed from above), kept adjusting until it fired up. Only problem...

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Fitted high quality new HT leads, new coil, new plugs, new ignition amp, rotor arm and dizzy cap. Still not firing up. Getting 12v at the coil. Clean the battery earth strap and the strap to the gearbox.

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Tested the ignition amplifier (TCI control unit) as per the tests found via this link: http://syncrosport.com/info/manual/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; All seems good there. Tested the resistance on my spare coil and the one fitted to the van: spare older coil 0.9 ohms 2....

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Just checked again for a spark, definately sparking although spark was orange.
Is it possible to check that the coil is receiving enough voltage? I wonder if there is a bad earth somewhere.

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Hi all
Just to tie up this thread.
Success, the old girl finally fired up. Fitted new spark plugs, rotor arm, dizzy cap and fitted a spare old coil and voila she fired up!! Must've been a weak spark.
Thanks for all the help.
Cheers
Myles

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Thanks Chris. I fitted an electric pump a year or so ago. Tried pouring some fuel into the carbs, wants to fire but not quite managing it. I'm wondering if the spark is strong enough. As suggested by Tobydog, the spark should be blue. I've got some new plugs, rotor arm and dizzy cap to fit, see if t...

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Dizzy cap and rotor arm look ok. Rotor arm is standard.
Does the coil take its earth from the clamp that holds it? The reason I ask is because I tried a spare but it didn't make a difference but I didn't put it in the clamp.

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Also, poured a little petrol down the carbs. It sounds like it is trying to fire but doesn't quite manage it. I am wondering about timing but the distributor is rock solid hasn't moved.

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Morning all, Checked for a spark, got a strong orange spark on all plugs. Compression readings: Cylinder1: 110psi Cylinder2: 130psi Cylinder3: 110psi Cylinder4: 130psi At one point when doing the compression test on cylinder one the engine stopped turning like it was blocked, switched off the igniti...

Re: 2l Aircooled CU won't fire up
Just a thought, is it possible for the drive teeth to be stripped from the distributor? Could this have happened in normal use?
