Many thanks for all your replies and to Dubdog&Max for going out and taking really close up images of his standard JX td alternator set up. I will check out all the tips you have given and post how we get on. New belt fitted and stayed on for now.
Kind regards.

JX td alternator drive belt issues
Hi All I recently helped the brother-in-law seek out and buy a 1989 JX td powered T25 and all is good except that the van has an apetite for eating / destroying / loosing the alternator/water pump drive belt. To be fair the previous owner advised that it had been a problem and thought the alternator...

Re: More questions, aircooledness, gearbox ratios, t25 slowness
Hi there - just done a 950 mile round trip up to Scotland in our Devon (taking in Volksfling - first time there - great show) and on to the top end of Mull, over some very big mountain roads. Had realy good weather and had a fantasic holiday in our van which is a 2.0 Aircooled auto ...... so as you ...

Where to locate a Gas powered heater ?
Hi All last week I dipped my toe into fitting extra heating to our Aircooled Devon (Auto) and bought (possibly foolishly) a second hand Romotron gas powered heater - same principle as a propex - it blows hot or cold air. In between sleet and snow showers yesterday I bench (or more accurately garden ...

Re: Remotron gas powered warm air blower
Hi there Did you ever get the heater working? I (probably foolishly) have just bought a working Remotron to fit in our 1982 Aircooled Devon. The heat exchangers are currently fine but the control boxes are tired and cables struggle to open and shut the boxes so we have heat all the time (unless I di...

Re: Grafting a rev counter into an Aircooled dash?
Many thanks for your comments and I agree replacement dashes seem to cost a fortune. To clarify, are you saying swapping the whole binacle inc PCB for a later one is the way to go, or that installing just the correct revcounter into the existing Aircooled binicle / PCB is straight forward ? i would ...

Re: Standard Van tyre specification - speed rating?
Hi there - the Hancook tyres arrived yesterday from Oponeo and so far very pleased - the date of Manufacture is 1415 which if I'm right represents being made in week commencing 6th April this year, so they are only a month old! I have been quoted £10 each to fit including balancing and disposal of t...

Re: Standard Van tyre specification - speed rating?
Many thanks for your time and effort looking - I had looked at those and had them on my list as possibles as a serious contender- but in the end have just orderd 4 Hancook RA-18 etc.. 102/100 load rated and R speed rated for a few quid dearer at £45 each delivered - they are from Oponeo and reported...

Grafting a rev counter into an Aircooled dash?
Hi There - I know, I know ....before you start - there are plenty of warnings on here not to do it, - but the space above the fuel gauge is crying out for a rev counter. Our 1982 CU LPG Auto Devon extensive dash runs to a speedo and a fuel gauge. It doesnt even have a clock... or even a demister fan...

Re: Standard Van tyre specification - speed rating?
Many thanks to all for your comments - thay have been truly helpfull. Having kept trawling through online tyre suppliers it looks like 185 R 14 C (102 load rating and R speed rated) is prety much all there is that make sure everything should be (more than) fine for insurance purposes. The MOT looms ...

Re: Standard Van tyre specification - speed rating?
Many thanks fror your reply, having checked the existing tyres, they are already 102 load rated but as mentioned before have fronts and back have different speed ratings (N and P). I agree with you that It can be a bit harsh and I suspect why the previous owner ran them under inflated (which is prob...

Re: Standard Van tyre specification - speed rating?
Thank you for the prompt reply, and i agree the load rating is very important. The Van tyres I have looked to buy are 102 weight rated (850 kg each). The Max rear axle load is plated (and in the hand book) at 1300kg - so weight rating wise I am comfortable that being van tires - they exceed the maxi...

Hi everyone First real post, but been an avid reader and have gained much usefull info since joining. We have had our van (a 1982 vintage CU engined automatic devon poptop) for coming up two years and since purchacing it I have had new tyres on the list of things to do (V. long List). The existing t...
