Re: Size of the tie rod hole!!

From memory, I think the hole is 32mm. Someone did document the repair they did to that area a short while back.

Re: gearbox/linkage

I'm a bit confused, gypo, because my original reply to the OP (dub1670) was to do with problems they were having with a very early van. I see that you have started another thread about trouble you are having with your 1985 gear linkage, but that is a very different set-up, and very well covered in t...

Have a look at John's excellent post here: http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=124770&p=7938014" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and this might be useful too: http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=121615&p=7913453" onclick="wi...

Re: Body Panel Schematic drawings

There are plenty of images like this of the body panels (and all the other components) on vagcat.com:

You need to register to see part numbers etc, but it's quick and free to do so. Very useful site.

Re: Which inverter?

As Kev says, don't even think about trying to run an electric heater! And I have to agree with what he says about using 12V appliances, chargers, etc too. It is really inefficient to raise battery voltage to 230V with an inverter, then drop it to 19V to charge a laptop, 5V to charge a phone,...

Re: 2.0 Aircooled CU oil type

Oh where would I find the jack ? :? You *should* find it under the seat, but that's only if a previous owner hasn't lost it. What were you planning on using the factory jack for? It's only really meant for wheel changes, and it relies on the structure around the jacking points being up to sc...

Re: To roller or not to bother?

Did I miss something? We all spent ages watching John carry out a no-holds-barred rebuild on the engine, to an incredibly high standard. John posted videos of it running perfectly, then loaded it very carefully into a crate. Then, when it came out of the crate a few days later, it was a locked-solid...

Re: high beam led indicator

My high beam tell-tale on a 1982 van is yellow, too. It does take a bit of getting used to after seeing a blue warning lamp on every other car I've driven. However, I really can't see why your MoT tester failed you on that point, for two reasons: There does not appear to be anything in the MoT handb...

*Correction*

Just spotted that you said you already had the guide pin bush.

Ignore that last link, then.

Re: Aircooled gearbox guide pin

There's one on German Ebay at the moment, for a fair price.

Here is the link:

Looks like you'll need this crinkly washer too (as it doesn't seem to come with one):

Good luck,

Re: Aircooled gear lever bush above fuel tank needed!

Hi, does anyone know where I could get hold of the bush that goes in the bracket above the fuel tank for the gear linkage? sent brickwerks an email about it a while ago but they just said it was obsolete. any work around for this if it can't be obtained? As far as I know, it is obsolete, but there ...

Re: Alternator Red wire

OK folks. Thanks for all your replies. It's a, 89 1.9 petrol DG watercooled engine. I've been told the red wire from the alternator should connect to the solenoid but not sure which connection of the three. A. The rear 'spade' connection that goes to the starter. B. The front small bolt. C. The cen...

Re: Alternator Red wire

Oh, and don't forget to charge the battery off the van before you try to charge it with the alternator. If you try to charge a completely flat battery using the alternator, you run the risk of doing it some major damage (the alternator, that is).

Re: Alternator Red wire

Strange - the wiring diagrams show it as going to the starter and don't show it going forward to the battery on petrol vans. Also Bentley shows it attached to the starter solenoid. On mine (CU) there are two red output wires (2.5 sq mm from memory) with a large spade each onto the alternator and a ...
