Re: Historic MOT criteria

There should already be a date on the V5C, which they can work from, but my understanding is that this is typically the date of first registration. However, when we checked our van we found that the manufacturing date was actually the calendar year before it was registered. This means that we can ge...

Re: I need to buy a coolant reservoir

Brickwerks have them in stock:

By the way, if you add some details of your van to your signature it simplifies the process of people replying with pertinent information. :ok

Re: Historic MOT criteria

You can either order a Certificate Of Confirmity from VW in Germany here, or you can try emailing the VW vehicle compliance department in the UK at type.approval@vwg.co.uk, who should be able to provide you with a letter confirming the date of manufacture of your van.

Historic MOT criteria

Here’s my understanding: you’ll need to get a ‘birth certificate’ from VW for your van, which confirms the 1983 date, which you can then use to get your V5C amended, and then you can use this revised V5C, with form V112, to get an exemption from April 2024.

1990 t25 fridge unit SNAFU

In terms of an alternative you could maybe look at the Vitrifrigo product line - apparently their C50i model is a good fit for the available space, and can run on both 12V / 230VAC. PS - If your existing fridge is in good nick, and you’re thinking to throw it out, then I’d be interested in taking it...

Replacing the Westfalia ‘BBB’ charger

Has anybody got any suggestions for suitable products that we can look at to replace the Westy BBB (buzzing black box) in our van? The original seems to have failed, at least I’m assuming that’s the case as it boiled (!!!) our starter battery on a hookup. The consensus in previous posts seemed to be...

Anyone used their OEM jack successfully?

I’ve also given up on the standard jack, as it tops out before the wheel is clear of the ground. Unless somebody can tell me that there’s a Syncro specific version, that’s taller than the 2WD version I probably have, then I’m resigned to a bottle jack or hi-lift moving forward.

Biggest tyre on 15” wheels?

Hey there - long time no see - hope you’re both keeping well. My understanding is that you already have the largest standard tyres - the equivalent on 16” rims is 215/70R16. I have seen some posts where people are saying that they can put 205R16 on a standard Syncro - I think [mention]wedgebury [/me...

Re: Best Engine to Meet Euro 4 or 6 Emissions? ULEZ issue

You should see if you can do something about that LEZ status as well - I think you can do it through the same link. A T25 Westfalia camper should also be exempt from the LEZ as it is a 'Motor Caravan' with a plated GVW under 2500kg, which is good as my understanding is that the charges for the LEZ a...

Re: Best Engine to Meet Euro 4 or 6 Emissions? ULEZ issue

No T3 will pass an IVA - not going to happen!! My understanding is that the IVA only checks emissions to a similar level as the MOT, which is insufficient to establish a Euro classification. In any case, it wouldn't make any difference as TfL are only accepting conversions that have had extensive t...

Sulphur smell after we start up

As Mocki says - its most likely a dead leisure battery off-gassing when the engine is running, and the battery is being charged by the alternator. You can verify this by disconnecting the leisure battery and then running the engine - if the smell isn’t there any more then you have your culprit.

That's the cover to the timing port in the bell housing - you seem to be missing the cap that plugs the hole in the centre:
