Re: 15" SA Rhein alloys
Ok thanks guys, Well my discs still have plenty of bite on 'em so I'll use them for a bit longer while I decide/save up. I think a bit of an upgrade would be nice at some point though. Thanks for the advice By the way, if anybody else wants a set they're £675 for a set of 5 from MV Engineering in Te...

15" SA Rhein alloys
So I want to upgrade my 14" steelies to these American-made SA spec 15" Rhein alloys 10151146_697131863677858_6934771418977994509_n.jpg I'll be having a 1.9TDi (90) fitted soon too so thinking new brakes might be in order. Other than the SA Big Brake kit (£846 from VWHeritage) are there an...

Re: Turbo cooling fan
Thanks Jes, from the state of the relay I reckon it's not even been turned on for years so you're probably right.
I'll give Ashley a shout, cheers

Turbo cooling fan
My turbo cooling fan (behind the rear lefthand light cluster) doesn't seem to work. It's out and I've given it 12v but nothing doing. Tried finding a replacement but they're rare as rocking horse toilet paper. (seen em on ebay.de, 2nd hand though) The fan part moves freely and it seems tidy. Anyone ...

Re: Getting rid of yellow glowplug light!!
Airhead - you're not the first to bring up the pump timing, excess blue smoke etc.... I'm struggling to find somebody local that I trust to do it. The last place I took it to said they were really busy and all I needed to do was "take it home, loosen off the pump, and as the timing is a bit ret...

Re: Keep getting electrocuted!
You're right Kev, will do. Mr Baxter over at Brickwerks reckons it's not the original engine but I think it's still a JX. I'll double-check.

Re: Keep getting electrocuted!
Thanks for your replies guys. @ Itchyfeet, it is a water-cooled 1.6td with the engine AND battery in the back. The cable is just over a metre (it's got some slack in it) and yes, I do have starting problems so hopefully this will help a bit. Cheers Thanks ObG and MGB too, good tips. It's always wort...

Re: Keep getting electrocuted!
Hahaha was trying to get more views by making it sound interesting, but ok, you got me there. Thanks for the anti-static tips! Anywaaaaay... back to the original question - the static shock is only what I thought was a symptom of bad earths. The main question is - Which of the battery cables availab...

Re: Keep getting electrocuted!
Just had another look in the wiki - this time I found a link to the same page I just linked above^^ Anyway - the wiki says cable 196 is the one (170 amps) but is this a straight replacement or is it actually an upgrade? Would it help going up to a 240amp welding cable or tinned cable? Also, w...

Keep getting electrocuted!
Hey up. I've noticed I'm getting static shocks from bodywork quite regularly now - could that be a symptom of bad earths? I'm gonna replace my battery to starter cable and gearbox earth strap. They look ok but theyre gonna be pretty old so might as well. Here's a site I found that will do cable meas...

Getting rid of yellow glowplug light!!
Hi there, Was experiencing some starting troubles on my 1.6TD, needed to cycle glow plugs 3 times and pull cold start lever to get her going but she wasn't happy and the yellow glow plug dash light stayed on for ages. I replaced all filters, glow plugs, glow plug fuse and relay, the LDA shaft seal o...

Is this the one at the top thru the "hinge" the alternator rotates around? I think mine went the other day, heard a slight crack as I was tightening up the alt belt. (also 1.6TD) VW dealer N044756 1, about thirty bob + Can't find it in a google search, anyone got any links? Also, I need to...

Re: Exhaust mounts.
Thanks Simon. The late exhaust in the picture looks identical to what's on there now. Mine has the 3 bolt flange on the end of the downpipe too. The old exhaust was definately a lot shorter than the current one (about 200-300mm shorter) If I am running the wrong exhaust, would that impact performanc...

Re: Exhaust mounts.
Yep. 1.6TD. Although Si at Brickwerks reckons its not the original engine, he didn't mention the exhaust so I reckon its ok. The exhaust was from the old gent at GT autospares, (think he's retired now) The one he got for me wasn't the same as the one that was on there when I bought the van, but he t...
