Re: 1.6td turbo/sump oil return pipe
Hi, I have one of these https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/engine-conversion-parts/1-9d-td-tdi/turbo-oil-return-line-t3-aaz.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Fitted but replaced with a shorter one on an SB conversion (used a different pipe as I ended up keeping the ori...

Re: Fitting A 1.6 SB engine-which turbo to use ?
Hi, Kept the SB turbo (Obviously needs re-indexing). Sadly it was letting oil past the seals.Apparently the turbo can be O.K when upright in a car but not when tilted over in a van. Ran it for a couple of months and it was great(apart from the oil leak). Switched to a JX turbo which came up cheap an...

Re: RA/SB engine option
Well done. Were there any specific modifications required or was it fairly straightforward? Good to hear that it fits under the lid okay - do you have a Syncro or 2WD. Did you use the GTD pump or a JX pump in the end? I converted from petrol to diesel,(2wd)I used the GTD pump.Hopefully yours will b...

Re: RA/SB engine option
Hi, Mine is in now and a really great engine,I can't recommend it highly enough if you don't want the expense of fitting a TDI (undoubtedly a far superior engine) Still having hot start issues with mine although it hasn't yet been timed properly after the pump was off for a re-build. Turbo was a rig...

Diesel wont start when hot
Finally got our leisurely paced petrol to SB (1.6 TD)conversion finished and out for a long-ish run at the weekend. Seemed to run hot-temp gauge just over 3/4 -I don't know if this is because the gauge is still from a petrol van?(used to run halfway when a DG was in there) Stopped after 6 miles to c...

Temp and oil senders on a Petrol to Diesel conversonn
I am trying to finish the last few bits on a Petrol to Diesel (Golf SB ) engine conversion.(1982 van) On the diesel engine there are two senders in a plastic housing on a water pipe. I am guessing one is for the cold start timer, one for the auxiliary water pump (both of which I will wire up once it...

JX alternator connections
Hi, I am trying to help a neighbour with a van he has just acquired (was WBX now a JX) Mine is off camping and neither of us are very good with wiring diagrams  At the back of the alternator are 3 connections A spade connector to left marked with a W-I thought this was for a rev counter but I ...

SB diesel install-which alternator bracket
:ok I have an SB from a Golf almost fitted in the van,the injection pump is off at the moment so I thought I would take the opportunity to swap the glow plugs and possibly swap the alternator bracket. The original bracket from the golf allows virtually no adjustment before the alternator hits the en...

Re: Starting a diesel for the first time since install-Any tips?
If the fuel can is above the pump, the engine will run, but it won't rev. As soon as I try and bring the can down below the level of the pump, it cuts out. Is this likely to be the lift pump? Also, if I keep trying to run some diesel through it, will it get better, or is there anything else I can tr...

Re: Starting a diesel for the first time since install-Any tips?
Hi, That’s it in a nut shell It is running from a can at the moment, probably on a level with the pump. As soon as I get some time I’ll try raising it as high above the pump as I can and see what happens. If the lift pump vanes are “gummed up” are the likely to free off if I run diesel through it or...

Re: Starting a diesel for the first time since install-Any tips?
Wey hehy it starts! Thanks for all the tips BUT it will only run for a few seconds then cuts out. If I suck diesel through the return pipe so the pump is full of fuel it will run for 1-2 minutes but won't rev. and then cuts out. with an injector nut cracked open a small amount of diesel dribbles out...

Re: Starting a diesel for the first time since install-Any tips?
O.K,
The engine is turning over nicely, but the pump doesn't seem to be drawing any diesel through,is there a bleed screw on the pump anywhere ?
Thanks

Starting a diesel for the first time since install-Any tips?
My leisurely DG to SB install is nearing completion and I would like to try and start it before completing the wiring and neatening everything up. I bought it without hearing it run so I want to start it before wasting any more time making everything as close to a factory install as possible) Is the...
