Re: Fit new Sport-Comp AM3316 Fuel gauge help please

I wondered if it was just a sales ploy. I thought that as long as the ohm range on the sender matched that of the gauge then any gauge would do.

Fit new Sport-Comp AM3316 Fuel gauge help please

We want to fit a new separate fuel gauge on my son's T25 Aircooled. Its the same one as on my T2 Bay, Sport-Comp Auto Meter AM3316 which I understand has a compatible ohm range with the JK VDO tank sender, 33 full 240 empty. We would like help with the wiring between the sender and the new gauge and...

Re: Fuel gauge not working properly

thank you bigherb, a new tank and all pipework and a new sender were fitted last year. along with 'new' balancing tanks and breather hoses. all working fine for a few months, then the fuel gauge started playing up and now not working at all, just sits at the bottom. at the moment, my son just keeps ...

Re: Fuel gauge not working properly

My son's air cooled Fuel Gauge has stopped working, now reads empty all the time even when plenty of fuel in the tank. Last year a new tank, new sender unit and all hoses and breathers replaced. Fuel gauge worked correctly for a year and now not working. 2 weeks ago the gauge read low so my son fill...

Re: Testing hall sensor

Thanks bigherb. The problem I have is the sudden stopping happened with the old amplifier, we assumed that was faulty and got a new one . The same has just happened with the new one. Which made me think it might be something else causing the symptoms. Would be a bit unlucky if both were faulty. We m...

Re: Testing hall sensor

My son has a recurring fault with his 1980 Aircooled. On and off for some time now it suddenly cuts out while driving, usually after about 3 miles. When the engine has cooled down it starts fine. Over time we have replaced engine electrics and fuel system and it settled down and was running well. A ...

Re: Engine issues

The coolant leak doesn't sound bad to me, its not pouring out, just a steady dribble which gets evaporated and leaves crystals on the engine around the leak area. As you said you don't do many miles a year so maybe spend your time and money on the other jobs first. Meanwhile, you could maybe get som...

Re: Front brake caliper replacement advice please

If you are not up to it or don't have the time, you could just buy new callipers, disks and hoses and get a garage to do the job. my son did that and it was a cheap and easy job for his local garage as they didn't have to source any parts. having said that, a garage would be capable of sourcing the ...

Re: CU engine needs new distributor

Thanks for your input so far. I have ordered a new tank and several other parts and that bush from Brickwerks as suggested. I am thinking it may be best if we replace the entire fuel system first before looking for electrics issues. My son mistakenly put some diesel in the tank which clearly stirred...

Re: Gearbox oil

In my mgb diff and my T2 and my son's T25 gearboxes we have used the Castrol gear oils. Always GL4 , never GL5. The Castrol 80W90 EP oil is a good one. I have tried the Castrol Syntrans 75W90 in my noisy T2 gearbox but it didn't quieten down until I put 80W90 in it. Still noisy but less so. Probably...

Re: Check your fire extinguisher

why only third party insurance. no point spending a lot of money on a fancy automatic engine bay system, better spend on getting comprehensive insurance. Premiums are low for agreed valuation and agreed miles policy. Shop around.

Re: Check your fire extinguisher

Those extinguishers may be ok for inside the van, but imho not suitable or wise to use on an engine bay fire. You don't want to risk serious burns or worse attempting to put out an engine fire with one of those. Engine fire, get out to safe distance and call the emergency services. Claim on the insu...

Re: Grinding noise

As you don't drive it much, I am thinking the grinding noise may be rusted drums and/or front disks. I would drive it around and use the brakes a lot and see if the grinding goes away.

Re: MOT fail - please tell me how to fix these things

Maybe someone will be able to advise on that one. Our T25 is stock with stock CU engine and stock brakes all round. New brakes do make a big difference especially on the fronts.

Maybe worth you starting a new thread on upgraded brakes for Subaru powerful engine.
