That's kind of what I am thinking, but I still have 2 months before it is due for the first six month service. If I take it in now, I will end up paying for something, then it will be due for the £65 6 monther shortly after. Kind of hoping it's okay to put it off for a couple of months... cheers, John

New Engine - Idle Problems...

Hello All, A few months back, I got a new engine from Elite VW. It has been running great, but there are two slight issues: 1. Once warmed up, it idles a bit too fast. 2. When it is cold, it is slightly rough. This only lasts about 20 seconds and then it is fine, but I fear it may get worse as the w...

Servicing after driving through water...

I just got back from a very wet trip to Wales. On the way out, I had to drive on flooded roads several times (up to a couple of feet of water). I am wondering if there is anything I should service/drain that may have been submerged.

cheers,

I just noticed that you have fitted a 1.9 AEF engine, not a standard engine. Your coolant capacity may be different than the 16-18L! Hopefully someone else can let you know how much you need...

You actually need 9 litres of coolant, which when diluted yeilds enough to fill the system (16-18L). Have a look at this page for more info on the coolant... http://wiki.80-90.co.uk/index.php/Coolant_and_Heating_recommended_brands Also (if you have not seen it already), have a look at this page for ...

I connect my ipod directly to an amp (with the cable described above) that I have shoehorned into my front dash. Nice and loud, and no head unit to get stolen. I have found that the ipod sits nicely in the ashtray up front. My dog likes the tunes too! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/118/271158767_0cf...

I could be wrong about this, but if you have pure water in your system, and you run the van up to temperature, the water will boil. Coolant keeps the water from boiling. I think you need to start the process over again. Drain the water, fill with correct mix of coolant / water. When you bleed the sy...

Sorry to keep banging on about this, but I am really hoping to get a better idea of what I am up against.

If I am getting a slow drip of coolant from the cylinder head where the exhaust connects, what is the likely source of the leak?

Thanks for the help.

Really looking forward to seeing your results. I read through 100's of pages of posts over on the moparts forum and have seen the great results that people are getting. I am seriously considering doing this. The only trouble is I don't have a garage, and I am not sure I am willing to risk doing it o...

Thanks for the input guys. I can tell from looking at it that the coolant definitely originates where the exhast connects to the head. If this is indeed the case, what would the source of that coolant be? Would it be a leaky head gasket (water jacket) leaking from inside the head? I appreciate all y...

Hi scottishdave - thanks for the reply. Forgive my ignorance, but could you tell me what the difference is between a head bolt seal and the cylinder head gasket? How would one replace a head bolt seal?

Maybe Head Gasket, not core plug...

I have been digging a little deeper on my coolant drip problem, and I am wondering if this may not be a core plug problem (still can't find any info on core plugs). Is it possible that this is a leaking head gasket? Here are a couple of pics of the leak. One is from the top looking down and the othe...
