I try to use Brickwerks for everything because you know it's quality products your getting but that's a big difference in price.

If rad is leaking then definitely renew it. Over the years they sludge up and loose efficiency, if you don't know it's history it could be over 30 years old with mixtures of God knows what having flowed through it . Is there air in the cooling system , if so there may not be enough coolant flowing past the sender to turn the fan on. Is the red light flashing or steady. Steady red light is high temp , flashing is low coolant level. Loads of info on Wiki on bleeding the system.
