Re: COOLlANT LIGHT
2 questions :- 1) Do you have roughly the correct amount of antifreeze in it? (I ask because, the way the coolant level sensor probes work, they sometimes give false readings if just plain water is in the system). 2) Is it the flat four petrol you have in your van? (I ask because that engine is pron...

Stating the obvious, but have you checked that the L/H tank is full to the brim when the motor is warm? (Take the usual care and precautions when removing the cap from a hot / warm header tank!!!) I ask because there are certain circumstances that can cause an air gap to appear in the top of that ta...

Other than a properly sealed inlet tract, and of course soundproofing the engine bay, is there anything else one can do to help keep them quiet?boatbuilder wrote:Mine is verry noisy....colinthefox wrote: Be very careful to have a properly sealed air inlet tract to keep your new engine quiet.

Re: 2.1 or 1.9 - which is most reliable ? (both running on carb
Aye, but the 1.9 can suffer from those ^^^ faults and it is very rare for them to throw a rod. It's more a 2.1 thing.
By the way, I bring this up because the thread is titled "2.1 or 1.9 - which is most reliable ?"

Re: Flattering battery help please
What are the symptoms that lead you to the conclusion that the battery is flat? I ask because you have a 120W panel but say only 1W is going into your battery, which isn't normal. How are you measuring that 1W going in? I take it you do have a solar panel charge controller unit in the circuit? (ther...

Those two screws (8mm nuts usually) and their washers, on top of the air filter ducting, right on top of the carb = be VERY careful not to drop them, or anything else into the carb as getting them back out would be a pain.937carrera wrote:Just two screws,

I saw these in Aldi, then twice the price in Halfords. Looks a bit of a faf. https://www.aldi.co.uk/bauhn-dab-%26-fm-transmitter/p/083022197522500" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I like the look of that one, what with the ability to be a phone hands free AND a blue-tooth re...

Re: replacement Hi Fi cartridge
I've been into Hi-Fi most of my life and used to run a shop where I bought, sold and repaired it. Yes, there are plenty of naff copies around  It's going to last for a few hundred "plays" of LPs, so you are right to check that you are buying a proper one for sure, irrespective of pri...

I posted on another thread about VW WBX engine re-builders. It seems there are more around than there used to be.trundletruc wrote:I am just about to get my 1989 2.1 DJ engine rebuilt.....

Just out of curiosity, which one are you using?

Re: 2.1 or 1.9 - which is most reliable ? (both running on carb
There are very very few specialist VW WBX rebuilders in the uk these days, and "we" know most of them (all 2 of them in fact). Who was it?hightop ratty wrote:(a specialist vw engine rebuilder is doing the rebuild)
I ask because of the scarcity of them, another one to turn to would be good.

Re: It won't start?
Worth noting that if you have run out of fuel, and you put some more in, these engines often have a slightly weak fuel pump and trying to pull the fuel through to the carb by cranking the engine, especially in this cold weather, can flatten your battery well before the fuel gets to the carb. A trick...

Re: Heater fan problems on 2.1 WBXDJ
I remember reading about a flashing red light of doom on the forum and had associated it with the lubrication system. Is there another FLD: Lubrication warning system covered in our "wiki" here = http://wiki.club8090.co.uk/index.php/All_engine_faults/repairs/maintenance_Dashboard_oil_pres...
