I replaced the stop solenoid with a new one from VW and it seemed to sort the issue, drove the van quite a few times with no issues but now it's turning over but not firing again. I have removed the new solenoid and bench tested it directly off the battery and found that it appears to be dead, I then tested the old one again which did respond and work most of the time. It seems the new one is faulty and not working at all now so it's going back to VW for a swop out, hopefully...

OK, it's back to not starting again, tried it yesterday and it started fine, and stopped when the ignition turned off, then started and stopped ok again, then wouldn't start when I decided to give it a road test.
